Instructions
There is something wonderfully cheeky about putting banana on your face, isn’t there? It sounds like the sort of homemade beauty treatment you would either find in a fancy spa under a much prettier name, or accidentally invent while cleaning up breakfast. Either way, this little DIY Monkey Magic facial is simple, affordable, and very easy to mix up from kitchen ingredients.
This banana oatmeal face mask is made with ripe banana, oatmeal, and coconut cream or milk. The banana creates a soft, creamy base, the oatmeal adds gentle exfoliation, and the coconut cream gives the mixture a richer, more pampering texture. It is a quick homemade facial recipe for those days when your skin feels a little dull and you want a small self-care moment without needing a cupboard full of specialty skincare ingredients.
Because this recipe uses fresh food ingredients, it is best made in a small batch and used immediately. Do not store leftovers, even if you are tempted to pop them in a jar and call it future self-care. Fresh banana and coconut milk are not long-term bathroom shelf residents.
To make the mask smoother, mash the banana very well with a fork or blend it briefly before adding the other ingredients. A very ripe banana works best because it breaks down more easily and creates a creamier paste.
Grind the oatmeal in a blender, food processor, or coffee grinder before mixing it into the mask. This helps stop the facial from feeling chunky and makes it easier to apply. Whole oats can be used, but they may not stick to the face as well and can be a little messy.
Add the banana, ground oatmeal, and coconut cream or milk to a small clean bowl. Mix until you have a thick paste. If the mixture feels too runny, add a little more ground oatmeal. If it feels too thick, add a tiny extra splash of coconut milk.
Apply the mask to clean, damp skin using your fingertips or a clean cosmetic brush. Keep the layer reasonably thick, but not so thick that it slides straight off your face and onto your shirt. We are aiming for spa day, not banana landslide.
Avoid the eye area, lips, nostrils, broken skin, sunburn, or any irritated patches.
Leave the mask on for 10–15 minutes. It may dry slightly as it sits, but it does not need to become completely hard.
To remove, wet your fingertips with warm water and gently massage the mask over the skin in small circular motions. The oatmeal gives a light exfoliating effect, so keep your touch soft and gentle.
Rinse well with warm water, making sure all traces of banana and oatmeal are removed. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel.
Use this facial immediately after mixing. Discard any leftovers.
For a finer, smoother facial, use oat flour or very finely ground oatmeal instead of whole oats.
For a richer mask, use coconut cream rather than coconut milk.
For a gentler version, reduce the oatmeal slightly and make the mask creamier with extra banana.
For a cooling summer facial, chill the banana briefly before mixing, but do not apply anything icy-cold directly to sensitive skin.
Do not use this mask if you are allergic or sensitive to banana, oats, or coconut. Always patch test first if your skin is reactive or if you are trying a homemade facial for the first time.
This is a fresh DIY skincare recipe, not a preserved cosmetic product. Keep the bowl, spoon, and hands clean while mixing and applying.
Use no more than once a week, especially if your skin is sensitive, as the oatmeal gives a light exfoliating effect.
If your skin becomes red, itchy, hot, or uncomfortable, rinse the mask off immediately and stop using it.
This banana oatmeal face mask also makes a fun spa-night recipe. Instead of gifting it pre-mixed, create a little DIY facial kit with a small bag of ground oatmeal, a printed instruction tag, and a note to add fresh banana and coconut milk at home. Add a soft face cloth or small cosmetic brush, and it becomes a sweet handmade pamper gift for teens, friends, or anyone who enjoys a natural skincare moment.
If you enjoy making homemade skincare recipes, it is handy to keep a small set of clean mixing bowls, cosmetic spatulas, soft face cloths, and little jars just for bath and body projects. You can usually find simple DIY skincare supplies, cosmetic brushes, jars, and reusable muslin cloths through Amazon or your favourite bath and body supplier.
