What you need

15 strawberries
4.5g (2 tsp) of powdered benzoin (preservative)
Red dye
5 drops of strawberry fragrance
340g/12 ounces of melt and pour soap

Instructions

This soap recipes uses the Melt & Pour Method of soap making using Melt and Pour Soap base.

Puree the strawberries in a blender then add enough water to make it up to 250 g of liquid or 9 ounces.

Melt the liquid together with the soap flakes and the benzoin and dye and pour into molds.

Buy strawberry shaped molds for candle making, soap making or even small chocolates and make little guest soaps.

Puree the strawberries in a blender until smooth.

Add enough water to the strawberry puree to make 250 g / 9 oz of liquid.

Cut the melt-and-pour soap base into small pieces so it melts evenly.

Melt the soap base gently using short microwave bursts or a double boiler. Stir often and do not allow the soap to boil.

Stir in the strawberry liquid, powdered benzoin, and soap-safe dye.

Add the strawberry fragrance oil and stir gently until everything is combined.

Pour the mixture into soap moulds.

Allow the bars to set completely before removing them from the moulds.

Once firm, unmould the soaps and allow them to dry before wrapping or gifting.

Important Soapmaking Notes

Because this recipe uses real strawberries, the finished soap may have a shorter shelf life than a basic melt-and-pour soap made only with fragrance and colour. Store the bars in a cool, dry place and use them sooner rather than leaving them tucked away in the linen cupboard for months. We have all found forgotten handmade soap at the back of a drawer before, haven’t we?

For a longer-lasting version, you can skip the real strawberries and use strawberry fragrance oil with a pink soap-safe colourant instead. This still gives you the sweet strawberry look and scent, but with less worry about fresh fruit in the finished bars.

Make sure any dye or fragrance you use is suitable for soap and skin-safe use. Candle fragrance oils are not always suitable for bath and body products.
