Instructions

A little handmade sinus relief pillow is one of those simple sewing projects that feels almost too easy to be useful — until you make one and suddenly everyone in the house wants their own. These small herbal pillows are designed to sit near you while you rest, helping create a soothing, aromatic little comfort pillow for stuffy noses, seasonal sniffles, hay fever days, or those nights when your sinuses are being dramatic.

This DIY sneeze pillow is filled with a blend of flax seed or wheat, spearmint, peppermint, lavender, eucalyptus, and rosemary, giving it a fresh herbal scent that feels clean and calming. You can make the pillow as a small square sachet, a normal-sized pillow, or turn it into something prettier like a cloud, star, heart, or fairy pillow if you want it to feel more gift-worthy. It is a lovely beginner sewing project because you only need basic fabric pieces, a few straight seams, and a small opening for filling.

These sinus relief pillows also make thoughtful handmade gifts, especially during cold and flu season or for anyone who struggles with seasonal allergies. Use soft cotton, flannel, or leftover fabric scraps from your stash, and pick up dried herbs, lavender buds, flax seed, wheat, or essential oils from your favourite craft or natural supply source. Pop the finished pillow into an organza bag with a little handmade label and it looks like something from a boutique wellness shop — minus the boutique price tag.

You could make your pillow, square, round, shaped like a cloud, or shaped like a whimsical fairy or star.

If you are adding lavender (for insomnia) or other herbs or spices, you may want to give them an added boost my adding a few essential oil droplets to the dried herbs or lavender.

To make your sneeze pillow take your two pieces of material that have been cut into your selected size or shape . Stitch along three sides of the material, then turn it right the side out.

Leave a opening big enough to add your herbs and a little stuffing to help round off the pillow and make it soft.

Once your pillow is full (don’t make your pillow tight nice and soft giving the herbs room to breath) stitch up the opening.

To refresh the scent of your pillow after several weeks, simple add a few drops of essential oils to the outside of the pillow.
