Start by painting the entire jar with 3 coats of the white chalk paint

Once completely dry add strips of the painters tape. So lay 3 pieces down next to each other and then remove the middle one to create a striped look

Using the gray paint, paint the spaces in between the tape

Then repeat the same process with the tape but horizontally and paint the in between lines using the gray paint. I did a few coats of the gray paint.

Using the black paint on alternating squares paint black to give the buffalo check look

I wrapped the top of the jar completely with twine and then tied in a bow.
