Halloween Flickering Faux Mantle Candles

Halloween Flickering Faux Mantle Candles

This Halloween tutorial shows you how to make a stack of melting candles, the perfect addition to your Halloween decor.

What you need

Plastic piping or cardboard rolls

Black Tea light candles

Black spray paint

hot glue gun

15-20 Glue gun sticks

Rope (optional)

Instructions

You will need plastic piping from the hardware store or assorted cardboard rolls. You can use postal tubes, cling wrap rolls and even toilet rolls.

Begin by creating your candles in different heights, stack larger ones towards the back and create a cluster that suits your table size or decoration. For a mantel, you will need a long narrow stack rather than a rounded cluster so that it sits on your Halloween themed mantle.

Using hot glue secure them into place. Next using the same hot wax from a glue gun, create wax drips from the top to the bottom. You can also use paintable silicone if you do not have a hot glue gun, but the glue is the best “drip” effect for candles.

You will need 1-2 glue sticks per candle depending on the size of your candles.

This candle cluster which was created and contributed by Veronica, E. M has a rope wrapped around the bottom with a small skull trinket in place. This is of course optional but gives a great effect. you want to add any details now before painting. Use hot glue or E600 glue to secure anything extra.

Next step is the painting process, Veronica create her candles using plain black spray paint.

I have also created these using an offwhite for an actual candle finish. I then added some burnishing with a brown paint and sponge. I love this plain black idea as it is much faster to create. Finish off by gluing a battery flickering tea light candle to the top. If your hole is too big add a cardboard circle to the top to close it off and then place the candle on top.
