Striped One Hour Crochet Slippers

Striped One Hour Crochet Slippers

This is a great stash-busting pattern. You only need small amounts of each color, so dig through your leftover skeins and see what fun combos you can come up with. I’ve tried red and white for candy-cane vibes, grey and mustard for a modern look, and even rainbow stripes for my teens who refuse to wear “boring mum slippers.”

What you need

  • Hook: 5 mm (H/8)
  • Yarn: Bulky/Chunky weight (category 5), two or more contrasting colors
  • Gauge: 7 dc x 4 rows = 2” square
  • Finished size: approx. 9.5”

Instructions

Pattern Notes for Stripes

  • Carry yarn up the inside of the slipper instead of cutting each round to reduce ends.
  • Change colors on the slip stitch join to keep edges neat.
  • Suggested stripe sequence: Alternate 2 rounds Color A, 2 rounds Color B.

Pattern Instructions

Chain 2 then start first round.

Round 1 (Color A): 10 dc into first ch. Join. (10 sts)

Round 2 (Color A): Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around. Join. (20 sts)

Round 3 (Color B): Ch 2, dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat around. Join. (25 sts)

Rounds 4–11: Continue in 2-round stripes (A, then B, then A, etc.), dc in each st around. Join each round.

Row 12 (Color A): Ch 2, dc in 18 sts. (18 sts)

Rows 13–15: Work even in dc across, alternating colors every row if you’d like thinner stripes.

Row 16 (Color B): Ch 2, dc 5, dc2tog 4 times, dc 5. (14 sts)

Row 17 (Color A): Ch 2, dc 3, dc2tog 4 times, dc 3. (10 sts)

Row 18: Turn; slip stitch to first st of Row 17.

Round 19: Continue in stripes: Ch 2, work 2 dc into each row-end 6 times (12 sts), dc 7 across toe, 2 dc in each row-end 6 times (12 sts). Join. (31 sts)

Round 20: Ch 1, sk 2, 5 dc in next st, sk 2, sl st in next, repeat around. Join.

Fasten off and sew heel seam with long tail.

 Tips for Stripes:

  • If you don’t like weaving in ends, stick to 2 colors max and carry the unused yarn neatly along the inside.
  • For a bold look, try rainbow scraps and change color every round.
  • For subtle elegance, pair a neutral with a pop of bright color.

One Hour Slippers – Size Adjustment Chart

Size (US Women/Men) Approx. Foot Length Starting Chain Body Rows Notes
Women’s 5–6 (Small) 8.5 in / 21.5 cm Chain 26 16 rows For narrower feet, reduce starting chain by 2–4 stitches.
Women’s 7–9 (Medium, default pattern) 9–9.5 in / 23–24 cm Chain 30 18 rows Fits most adult women. Pattern as written.
Women’s 10–11 / Men’s 8–9 (Large) 10–10.5 in / 26–27 cm Chain 34 20 rows Add extra 2 rows for more depth if needed.
Men’s 10–12 (Extra Large) 11–11.5 in / 28–29 cm Chain 38 22 rows Consider using a 6 mm hook and heavier yarn for width.

 Fitting Tips

  • Try-on as you go: Before seaming, wrap the flat piece around your foot. The sides should overlap slightly at the toe for a snug fit.
  • Stretch factor: These slippers stretch up to ½ inch with wear.
  • Yarn substitutions: Soft acrylics (like Red Heart Soft or Caron Simply Soft) or cotton blends work beautifully.

 To Adjust for Width

If your slippers feel too loose or too tight:

  • For wider feet → Add 1–2 extra stitches to the starting chain.
  • For narrower feet → Subtract 1–2 stitches.

Would love this slipper pattern. I’ve got a lot of college bound students I’d like to make them for in their college colors!
