Plant and Cable Tie – Free Crochet Pattern

Plant and Cable Tie – Free Crochet Pattern

Whether you're curling up with a good book, wrangling rogue charging cords, or tying up your trailing pothos, this Leaf Sprout Tie has you covered. It's the kind of handmade item that's both adorable and super useful—plus, it uses just a bit of yarn and works up lightning-fast. Grab your hook, pick a green (or go rainbow!), and make your home a little tidier, one sprout at a time.

What you need

  • Worsted weight yarn – go green or get creative!
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Instructions

Stitches & Abbreviations (US Terms):

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • tr – treble crochet

 Let’s Make That Leafy Goodness:

First Leaf:

  1. Begin by chaining 10.
  2. Work the following into the 2nd chain from your hook:
    • 1 sc
    • 1 hdc in next
    • 1 dc in next
    • 1 tr in each of the next 3 stitches
    • 1 dc
    • 1 hdc
    • 3 sc in the final chain (this creates your rounded tip)

Now you’re working your way down the other side of the chain:
3. Into the opposite side of the base chain, work:

  • 1 hdc
  • 1 dc
  • 1 tr in each of the next 3 stitches
  • 1 dc
  • 1 hdc
  • 1 sc

Finish it off with a slip stitch into the first stitch to close. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Tip: If your leaf curls, a little steam or blocking flattens it out beautifully.

 Make Another One:

Yep, just repeat everything above to whip up your second leaf.

The Sprout Stem (aka the Tie):

  1. Using the same yarn, chain 26 (or adjust to suit your cable thickness).
  2. Work 1 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook and continue placing 1 sc into each chain across.
  3. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Assembly:

  • Position your leaves so they’re pointing slightly away from each other like a sprout.
  • Sew them securely to the center of the stem strip using the long tails you left earlier.
  • Weave in all remaining ends and give it a little trim if needed.

 Use It As:

  • A charming cord keeper for chargers, earbuds, or cables
  • A cute bookmark peeking out of your latest cozy mystery
  • A sweet embellishment on gifts or potted plant decor
