Dollar Tree Floor Mat To Tote Bag Sewing Project

Dollar Tree Floor Mat To Tote Bag Sewing Project

This craft tutorial shows you how to take a floor mat and turn it into a tote bag. Basic sewing skills are all you need to complete this bag.

What you need

Dollar tree floor rug

Sewing supplies with large darning needle or E6000

Glue

2 x 21 inch dowel rods

Instructions

This rug was bought from Dollar Tree and comes in different colors and styles. If you don’t have a Dollar tree store nearby, you can purchase them online via Dollar tree or Amazon.

First, fold the rug at the ends leaving space for a dowel rod to be inserted.

Next sew to form the hem. You could use E6000 glue to form the dowel pocket if you like. Due to the thickness of the rug, glueing would most likely be far easier.

The handles are made from a cut-up T-shirt that has been braided and sewn or glued into place. You can use a soft cotton rope cord as well for the handles or add some plastic handles like these.

Simple and easy!

I’ve walked past these rugs at Dollar Tree for weeks thinking, they would make a nice tote bag. I think I will finally buy a couple.
