Pattern
Center (Pupil)
With black yarn and 3.5 mm hook, make a magic ring.
- Round 1: Ch 2 (doesn’t count as a stitch), work 12 dc in the ring. Sl st to join. (12 sts)
- Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around. Sl st to join. (24 sts)
- Round 3: Ch 2, 2 dc in next st, dc in next repeat around. Join. (36 sts)
Fasten off black and join blue.
Iris (Blue)
- Round 4: Ch 2, dc in first st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 repeat. End with 2 dc, dc. Join. (48 sts)
- Round 5: Ch 2, 2 dc in next st, dc in 3 repeat. Join. (60 sts)
- Round 6: Ch 2, dc in 2, 2 dc, dc in 4 repeat. Join. (72 sts)
- Round 7: Ch 2, 2 dc, dc in 5 repeat. Join. (84 sts)
Fasten off blue and join white.
Sclera (White)
Continue in the same increasing pattern:
- Round 8: (2 dc, dc in 6) → 96 sts
- Round 9: (2 dc, dc in 7) → 108 sts
- Round 10: (2 dc, dc in 8) → 120 sts
- Round 11: (2 dc, dc in 9) → 132 sts
- Round 12: (2 dc, dc in 10) → 144 sts
- Round 13: (2 dc, dc in 11) → 156 sts
- Round 14: (2 dc, dc in 12) → 168 sts
Border
Attach red yarn with 3.5 mm hook. Ch 15 to form a hanging loop, sl st into the same stitch. Switch to 4.5 mm hook and work slip stitches, small clusters of sc/hdc/dc, and increases randomly spaced around to mimic jagged “vein” edges. Join. (approx. 186 sts)
Highlight
With white yarn, crochet a small circle (6 sc in a magic ring) and sew it onto the top left of the pupil for that glossy, realistic shine.
Finishing Touches
Use red yarn to embroider short “vein” lines from the outer edge inward, between rounds 12–14. Weave in all ends neatly.
And there you have it—your blue-eyed Halloween dishcloth, spooky enough to guard your candy stash or add a playful scare to your table setting.
