What you need
- Clean, dry recycled glass jar (jam jar, pickle jar, mason jar, etc.)
- Printed Christmas sheet music (our Silent Night vintage printable works perfectly)
- Scissors

- Foam brush or paintbrush
- Ribbon, twine, or lace for embellishing
- Tea light candle (real or battery-operated for safety)
Instructions
Instructions
1. Prepare the Jar
Wash and dry your jar thoroughly to remove any labels or glue residue. A quick soak in warm, soapy water makes labels peel off easily.
2. Size the Sheet Music
Print your Christmas carol sheet music on standard paper. Measure the jar’s height, then trim your sheet music to fit around it. You can overlap slightly for a full wrap or leave a gap to let more light shine through.
Tip: If you want a softer, antique look, lightly brush the sheet with tea or coffee and let it dry before attaching.
3. Apply the Mod Podge
Using a foam brush, spread a thin layer of Mod Podge directly onto the jar where your music will sit. Press the paper onto the jar, smoothing out any bubbles with your fingers.
4. Seal the Paper
Once the paper is positioned, brush another thin coat of Mod Podge over the top to seal it. Work gently to avoid tearing the paper. Let dry completely — about 15–20 minutes.
5. Add Embellishments
Tie a length of ribbon, lace, or rustic twine around the jar’s neck. You can even hot glue on a sprig of faux holly or a small jingle bell for extra Christmas spirit.
6. Light It Up
Place a tea light inside the jar. If you’re using a real candle, ensure there’s enough ventilation at the top and never leave it unattended. Battery-operated candles are the safest option.
Styling Ideas
- Make a matching set with different carols for a mantel display.
- Fill the jar with cinnamon sticks, pinecones, or candy canes instead of a candle for a festive centrepiece.
- Use the same technique on wine bottles or tall vases for a variety of heights.
This sheet music jar craft is one of those projects that looks boutique and expensive, yet it costs next to nothing and takes minutes to make. Plus, it’s a beautiful way to recycle and give old jars a festive second life.
