Instructions

Some days your skin just wants to be left alone—no harsh scrubs, no perfumed potions, just something soft and kind that gets the job done. That’s exactly what this calming cleanser bar is for. Made with gentle, skin-soothing ingredients like calamine, chamomile, and creamy goat’s milk soap base, it’s a lovely little ritual for anyone dealing with redness, flare-ups, or dry skin tantrums.

I made a batch of these after my teenager and I both started breaking out from winter dryness and too many “quick fix” skincare attempts. This bar? It brought peace back to our bathroom.

How to Make a Calming Cleanser Bar

1. Chop & Melt the Base

Cut the soap base into chunks and melt it slowly using a double boiler or microwave in 30-second bursts. Stir until smooth.

2. Prep the Dry Mix

In a small bowl, combine your calamine powder, pink clay, and oats. Stir out any clumps so they blend smoothly.

3. Blend It All Together

Once your soap base is fully melted, remove it from the heat and stir in the dry mix. Work quickly but gently—melt-and-pour soap can start to set fast!

4. Add Essential Oils

Add your lavender, tea tree, and chamomile oils. Stir gently until everything is combined.

5. Pour Into Molds

Carefully pour into your silicone molds. Let the bars sit undisturbed for 2–4 hours at room temp.

6. Unmold & Rest

Pop out your bars and let them air-dry on a rack or tray for a day or two so they firm up a little more.

How to Use It

Wet your face and gently rub the bar between your hands or directly onto your skin. Massage the lather in soft circles, rinse well, and pat dry. Follow with your usual moisturiser.

It’s perfect for the evening wind-down or even a morning refresh.

Customise It for Your Skin

  • Dry skin? Add a few drops of jojoba or vitamin E oil.

  • Acne-prone? Add a pinch of activated charcoal or more tea tree.

  • No calamine powder? Use extra ground oats or try colloidal oatmeal.

Storage Tips

Keep your bar dry between uses—resting it on a slotted soap dish helps it last longer. Store extras in a cool cupboard or wrap them as gifts!

This calming cleanser bar has officially earned its place by my sink. It’s simple, affordable, and has helped balance the chaos on my skin and in my skincare routine. I even made a few extras and popped them into linen bags with little printable labels for gifting.

Let your skin breathe a little easier—you deserve that moment of calm.
