What you need
DK yarn or 4-ply yarn in chocolate brown
- A tiny amount of contrasting yarn for facial details if desired
- Pair of knitting needles
- Stitch markers
- Toy stuffing
- Tapestry or sewing needle for finishing and grafting
- Black embroidery thread or black yarn for the eyes
Optional for a Larger Bunny
- 5.0 mm knitting needles
- Two strands of DK yarn held together
Instructions
This sweet little knitted bunny is worked from a garter-stitch base, with stitches picked up around the edges and then shaped in the round to form the body and ears. It makes a lovely Easter project or chocolate-bunny-inspired gift.

Finished Notes
The original pattern note says that a larger version was knitted using 5.0 mm needles and two strands of DK yarn held together, and it used less than one 50g skein in total.
Special Stitch
kfb = knit into the front of the stitch, then knit into the back of the same stitch before slipping it off the left needle.
Pattern
Cast on 20 stitches.
Knit 10 rows to make 5 garter stitch ridges.
Now pick up stitches around the rectangle as follows:
- Place marker D
- Pick up 5 stitches along one side
- Place marker A
- Pick up 20 stitches along the front edge
- Place marker B
- Pick up 5 stitches along the other side
- Place marker C
- Knit across the original 20 back stitches to marker D
From this point on, rounds begin at marker A.
Knit 4 rounds.
Shaping Rounds
Round 5: ssk, knit to 2 stitches before marker D, k2tog, knit to end.
Round 6: Repeat Round 5.
Rounds 7–8: Knit.
Round 9: kfb, knit to 1 stitch before marker D, kfb, knit to end.
Round 10: Repeat Round 9.
Round 11: Knit.
Round 12: Knit to 2 stitches before marker B, k2tog, knit to marker C, ssk, knit to end.
Round 13: Knit.
Rounds 14–17: Repeat Rounds 12 and 13 twice more.
Round 18: Knit to 2 stitches before marker B, k2tog, knit to marker C, ssk, knit to end.
Rounds 19–21: Repeat Round 18 three more times.
Round 22: ssk, knit to 2 stitches before marker B, k2tog, knit to marker C, ssk, knit to 2 stitches before marker D, k2tog, knit to end.
Round 23: Knit.
Rounds 24–25: Repeat Round 18.
Round 26: Repeat Round 22.
Rounds 27–28: Knit.
Round 29: kfb, knit to 1 stitch before marker D, kfb, knit to end.
Round 30: Knit.
Rounds 31–32: Repeat Rounds 29 and 30.
Round 33: Knit to 1 stitch before marker B, kfb, knit to marker C, kfb, knit to end.
Round 34: Knit.
Rounds 35–38: Repeat Rounds 33 and 34 twice more.
Round 39: ssk, knit to 1 stitch before marker B, kfb, knit to marker C, kfb, knit to 2 stitches before marker D, k2tog, knit to end.
Rounds 40–41: Repeat Round 39.
Round 42: Knit.
Stuff the toy.
Round 43: ssk, knit to 2 stitches before marker D, k2tog, knit to end.
Finishing
Continue repeating Round 43 until you have:
- 0 stitches between markers A and B
- 5 stitches between markers B and C
- 0 stitches between markers C and D
- 5 stitches between markers D and A
Stuff the ears, then graft the remaining 10 side stitches together.
Embroider the eyes.
Larger Version Note
A larger bunny can be made using:
- 5.0 mm needles
- 2 strands of DK yarn held together
This version uses less than one 50g skein, split into two balls.
