Cat Lollipop Cover: Crochet Halloween

A quirky crochet pattern for Halloween. Make a cat shaped cover for your lollipops!

What you need

Worsted weight yarn, (Black)
Crochet hook, size E Finishing Materials:
Small amount worsted weight yarn, (Orange)
Small amount of embroidery floss (Orange)
Small piece of embroidery floss (Red) (optional)
Tapestry needles
2 (1/4″) plastic eyes
Glue

Instructions

Cover:

Rnd 1) Ch 4; 11 dc in 4th chain from hook; join with a slip st to 4th chain of beg ch 4: 12 dc.

Rnd 2) Ch 3 (counts as a beg dc, now and throughout), dc in next dc, 2 dc in back loop only of next dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in back loop only of next dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc; join with a slip st to first dc: 16 dc.

Rnd 3) Ch 3; * dc in next dc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first dc: 16 dc.

Rnd 4) Ch 4, skip next dc; * dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to 3rd chain of beg ch 4: 8 dc/8sps.

Rnd 5) (Ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in joining, skip next dc; * (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next dc, skip next dc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first dc: 4 shells.

Ears: (Make two)

Attach yarn to un-worked front loop on Rnd 2; Ch 2, (yo, insert hook in same stitch, bring up a loop) twice, yo, draw through 3 loops on hook, yo, draw through last 2 loops on hook. Instead of securing end as usual by pulling up a loop and drawing the end through the loop and tightening. Pull up the loop until the end comes out. Secure. This will produce a more pointed ear.

Repeat for other ear. Fasten off, secure ends.

Finishing:

Place cover over lollipop. Glue eyes to face. Cut short lengths of Orange embroidery floss for whiskers and glue to face as shown in photo above. Cut a short piece of Orange yarn and weave through Rnd 4, tie in a bow at front, drawing the cover around the stick of the lollipop. Glue a short length of Red embroidery floss to face for a mouth if desired. Enjoy!
