Crochet Pattern: Flying Pigs

Crochet Pattern: Flying Pigs

This free Amigurumi crochet project shows you how to create a flying pig.

What you need

small amount (less than 1 oz. each) pink and white worsted weight yarn
Size F (3.75 mm) crochet hook
2 black size E beads
2 brown seed beads
sewing thread and needle
yarn needle
polyfil or similar stuffing
stitch marker
gold elastic cord (optional, for hanging)

Instructions

Special Stitch: Invisible Decrease:

place hook through front loop only of the stitch you’re skipping (front to back); do not yarn over; place hook the same way in the next stitch; yo; pull yarn through both stitches and complete as normal. (Finishing the stitch counts as next sc.)

This technique eliminates an obvious hole.

Gauge: Gauge is not critical to this pattern, but do work tightly to keep stuffing from popping out between stitches. Finished pig will be about 4 in. (10 cm) snout to tail.

Body: Using pink yarn, make adjustable ring.

Round 1: Ch1, 5 sc in ring, do not join (5 sc) (From now on, indicate first stitch of each round with a marker to keep your place)

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc (10 sc)

Round 3: *1 sc in sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * all around (15 sc)

Round 4: *1 sc in sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * all around (20 sc)

Round 5: *1 sc in sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * all around (25 sc)

Rounds 6-12: 1 sc in each sc around (25 sc)

Round 13: *1 sc in each of 4 sc, invisible decrease; repeat from * all around (20 sc)

Round 14: *1 sc in each of 3 sc, invisible decrease; repeat from * all around (15 sc) Stuff with polyfil at this point. Add a bit more as you go.

Round 15: *1 sc in each of 2 sc, invisible decrease; repeat from * all around (10 sc)

Round 16: *1 sc in sc, invisible decrease; repeat from * all around (5 sc)

Round 17: (snout) 1 sc in each sc (5 sc) Sl st in next 2 st, sl st to opposite side of snout to close; finish off, drawing yarn through body with yarn needle. Cut off yarn close to body so it disappears inside when done.

LEGS (make 4):

Using pink yarn, make adjustable ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, 6 sc in ring, do not join (6 sc)

Round 2-4: 1 sc in each sc (6 sc) Sl st in next st; finish off, leaving sewing length.

EARS (make 2): Using pink yarn:

Row 1: 4 ch, turn

Row 2: Skip first ch; sc in each sc, turn (3 sc)

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in next 2 sc, sl st in last sc (3 st) Finish off, leaving sewing length. (Where you ended is the point of the ear; work yarn down to bottom to sew on.)

TAIL: Using pink yarn, Ch 12.

Row 1: *Skip ch, sl st in next ch. Repeat from * to end, making a curly tail. (6 sl st) Finish off, leaving sewing length.

WINGS (make 2): Using white yarn, Ch 12.

Row 1: Sc in 4th ch from hook, sc in each sc to end, turn (9 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in each of next 7 sc, leaving last unworked, ch 3, turn (7 sc)

Row 3: Sc in each of first 6 sc, leaving last unworked, turn (6 sc)

Row 4: Ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, ch 3, turn (3 sc)

Row 5: Sc in each sc, turn (3 sc)

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in sc, leaving last 2 unworked, turn (1 sc)

Row 7: 3 ch, sc to last sc made (1 sc)

Finish off, leaving a sewing length. Work end down to shortest side of wing (the non-frilly edge of Rows 1 and 2.)

ASSEMBLY:

Sew legs, tail, ears, and wings to appropriate areas of the body. Using sewing thread, sew on black E beads for eyes and brown seed beads for nostrils. If desired, attach a loop of gold elastic thread to the pig’s back for a hanging loop.
