Patriotic USA Crochet Letters

Make the U-S-A letters in simple crochet using this step by step pattern.

What you need

Small amount worsted weight yarn, Blue
Small amount worsted weight yarn, Red
Small amount worsted weight yarn, White
Crochet hook, size F Finishing Materials:
Magnets
Tapestry needles

Instructions

Size of letter U: 3 1/2″ t x 2 1/2″ w

Size of letter S: 3 1/2″ t x 2 1/2″ w

Size of letter A: 3 1/2″ t x 3 1/2″ w at widest part

Gauge: Not important to overall size

Letter U: (Using Red)

Row 1) Ch 6; dc in 5th chain from hook and in next chain: 3 dc.

Row 2) Ch 3, turn work; Dc in next 2 sts.

Rows 3-4) Repeat Row 2.

Row 5) Ch 1, turn work; Sc in first st, dc in next st, trc in next st.

Row 6) Ch 4, turn work; Dc in next st, sc in next st.

Rows 7-8) Repeat Rows 5 and 6 respectively.

Rows 9-12) Repeat Row 2. Fasten off, secure ends.

Letter S: (Using White)

Row 1) Ch 6; dc in 5th chain from hook and in next chain: 3 dc.

Row 2) Ch 1, turn work; Sc in first st, dc in next st, trc in next st.

Row 3) Ch 4, turn work; Dc in next st, sc in next st.

Rows 4-5) Repeat Rows 2 and 3 respectively.

Row 6) Repeat Row 2.

Rows 7-12) Repeat Rows 2 and 3 respectively.

Row 13) Ch 3, turn work; Dc in next 2 sts. Fasten off, secure ends.

Letter A: (Using Blue)

Row 1) Ch 6; dc in 5th chain from hook and in next chain: 3 dc.

Row 2) Ch 3, turn work; Dc in next 2 sts.

Rows 3-4) Repeat Row 2.

Row 5) Ch 1, turn work; Sc in first st, dc in next 2 sts.

Row 6) Ch 3, turn work; Dc in next st, sc in next st.

Rows 7-8) Repeat Rows 5 and 6 respectively.

Rows 9-12) Repeat Row 2. Do not end off; (working up inside of A), ch 1, slip st up side to base of 3rd row, ch 3, 2 dc over dc post of 3rd row; ch 3, turn work, (working back across row just made), dc in next 2 sts. Fasten off, leaving a 6″ tail for securing.

Finishing:
Thread tapestry needle with 6″ tail left from letter A; whip stitch the “bar” just made to the opposite corresponding side of letter A. Attach magnets to back of each letter where needed.
