What you need

1 tbsp castor oil (for deep hydration + natural shine)

1 tbsp shea butter (softens and nourishes)

1 tbsp beeswax pellets (helps the balm stay firm)

1 tsp coconut oil (lightweight moisture)

¼ tsp vitamin E oil (optional, extends shelf life and boosts healing)

3–5 drops essential oil (try peppermint, sweet orange, or lavender)

Instructions

How to Make It:

  1. Melt the base oils.
In a double boiler or a heatproof bowl over a small pot of simmering water, melt together the beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil. Stir gently until fully liquified.

  2. Add castor oil + extras.
Remove from heat and stir in the castor oil, vitamin E, and essential oil. Mix well.

  3. Pour + cool.
Carefully pour the liquid balm into clean, dry containers using a small funnel or spoon. Let them cool undisturbed at room temperature (or refrigerate for faster setting).

  4. Label + store.
Once set, pop on the lids, label if gifting, and store in a cool spot out of direct sun.

How to Use:

Swipe onto lips as often as needed, especially before bed, after sun exposure, or during windy days. It works beautifully under lipstick too.

Why This Recipe Works:

  • Castor oil delivers long-lasting moisture and a natural gloss.

  • Shea butter softens and soothes cracked lips.

  • Beeswax locks in hydration and gives the balm a stable, non-melty consistency.

  • Coconut oil adds slip and comfort.

  • Vitamin E helps heal and protect delicate skin.

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Tinted balm: add ¼ tsp beetroot powder or melt in a small piece of old lipstick.

  • Shimmery balm: stir in a pinch of cosmetic-grade mica powder.

  • Seasonal scents: try cinnamon + vanilla for winter or lemon + mint for summer.

Gift It!

Pour into mini tins or lip balm tubes and add labels or ribbons for handmade stocking stuffers, bridal shower favours, or teacher gifts. You could even pair it with a DIY sugar lip scrub for a full lip care kit.

Storage + Shelf Life:

  • Store in a cool, dry place.

  • Lasts 6–12 months depending on ingredients used.

  • Keep one in your bag and another by your bedside for nightly repair.

CraftBits.com Tip:

If your balm feels too soft (especially in summer), re-melt and add a little more beeswax. Too hard? Stir in a few extra drops of castor oil or coconut oil.
