Crochet Snowflake Ornament

This pattern is for a crochet snowflake which can be used as a tree ornament or other Christmas embellishment.

What you need

Bedspread weight (size 10) crochet cotton, small amount of white

Steel crochet hook, size 6 (1.80 mm)

Fabric stiffener

Straight pins

Instructions

Snowflake measures approximately 4 3/4 inches

Skill Level: Intermediate

Ch 6, join with sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, dc in ring, ch 2, (2 dc in ring, ch 2) 5 times; join to top of beg ch-3. (6 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 2: Sl st in next dc and in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in same sp, sc in next 2 sc, *(sc, ch 3, sc) in same sp, sc in next 2 sc, rep from * around; join to first sc. (6 ch-3 sps)

Rnd 3: Sl st in next sc and in next ch-3 sp, ch 4, tr in same sp, ch 5, skip next sc, sc in ea of next 2 sc, *ch 5, 2 tr in next ch-3 sp, ch 5, skip next sc, sc in ea of next 2 sc; rep from * around, ch 5, join to top of beg ch-4. 12 ch 5 sps

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, {ch 3, sl st in sc just made (picot made)}, sc in next tr,ch 5, tr in ea of next 2 sc, ch 5, *sc in next tr, make picot, sc in next tr, ch 5,tr in ea of next 2 sc, ch 5; rep from * around, join to first sc. 12 ch 5 sps and 6 picots

Rnd 5: Ch 4, tr in same st, ch 3, skip picot, 2 tr in next sc, *ch 3, sc in next ch 5 lp, skip trebles,ch 3, sc in next ch 5 lp, ch 3, 2 tr in next sc, ch 3, skip picot, 2 tr in next sc; rep from* 4 times, ch 3, sc in next lp, ch 3, sc in next lp, ch 3, join to top of beg ch-4. 24 ch 3 sps

Rnd 6: Sl st in next tr and in next ch-3 sp. Ch 1, (sc, ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from hk, sc) all in same sp, ch 9, skip first lp, sl st in next lp, ch 9, skip next lp, * in next ch-3 sp (between trebles), work (sc, ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from hk, sc), ch 9, skip first lp, sl st in next lp, ch 9, skip next lp, rep from * around; join to first sc.

Finish off. Pin and stiffen snowflake as desired.

All done!

    I’ve been looking for a good crocheted snowflake pattern for a shawl I want to make from an issue of Knit.1 Mag, they used butterflies, but my wedding is in Dec, so snowflakes would be a better choice! Thank you!!
