Instructions
This crochet button angel ornament is a sweet little Christmas craft made with yarn scraps, ribbon, buttons, beads, and a sparkly pipe cleaner halo. It is one of those small handmade projects that feels wonderfully nostalgic — the kind of thing you can make from bits and pieces already tucked away in your craft drawer.
The wings are crocheted in a simple rectangle, gathered in the middle, then layered with a small crocheted body, a button face, ribbon bow, and gold halo. Once finished, your angel can be used as a Christmas tree ornament, brooch, fridge magnet, handmade card embellishment, gift topper, or sweet little keepsake decoration.
This is also a lovely project for using up odd buttons and leftover yarn. And if you have a tin of buttons that you absolutely refuse to sort through properly, this is your excuse to tip it all out and call it “creative research.”
Make the wings:
1) Chain 7, single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, and in each stitch across the row. Chain 1 and turn.
2) Single crochet in each stitch across the row, chain 1 and turn.
3) Repeat row 2 for 8 more rows. Fasten off.
Fold in half to find the center, and tie a short piece of yarn tightly to gather and form the shape of wings.
Make the body:
1) Chain 3, 12 double crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook
Slip stitch to join and fasten off. (Circle made which is the body)
ASSEMBLY:
Cut a 2 inch length of the ribbon, tie a scrap of yarn in the center.
Twist a 4 inch length of glitter stem to form a halo. Overlap the body at the bottom of the wings slightly and glue.
Glue a ribbon hanger on the back if using as an ornament. Glue a magnet to the back or a pinback.
Position the button, using the two holes as eyes, and glue.
Glue a button or beads on the belly.
Glue the 2 inch ribbon bow at the chin.
Tuck the glitter stem behind the button, and glue.
FINISHED! Bless your little angel, and enjoy!!
