What you need
Gold crochet cotton
Red crochet cotton
Gold coloured purse top/closure
Purse chain (optional)
Size 2 crochet hook
Instructions
Round 1:
Using gold, ch 4. Join to form ring. Ch 3. 9 dc into ring. Join.
Round 2:
2 dc in each dc around. Join
Round 3:
*1 dc in first dc, 2 dc in next dc (increase)*. Repeat from * around. Join
Round 4:
*1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc*. Repeat from * around. Join
Round 5:
*1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc*. Repeat from * around. Join.
Round 6-8
1 dc in each dc around, increasing as necessary to keep work straight.
Round 9:
1 dc in each dc, leaving last 42 dc unworked. (This edge will be sewn to purse clasp later). Ch 3, turn.
Round 10: Skip first 2 dc, dc in each dc, increasing as necessary to keep work flat. Ch 3, turn.
Round 11-15:
Repeat round 10.
Fasten off
Repeat process for other side.
Rose (Make 2):
With red, *ch 3, dc in 3rd ch from hook*. Repeat from * 11 more times. Ch1, turn
Sc, 3 dc, sc in first ch space.
*sc, 4 dc, sc in next ch space*, repeat from * in next ch space.
*Sc, ch 5, sc in next ch space*, repeat from * in next 4 ch spaces.
*sc, ch 6, sc in next ch space*, repeat from * in next 5 ch spaces.
Fasten off.
Starting with smallest petal, roll work up to form a rose, sew all layers securely through centre.
Attach rose to the centre round of purse side.
Sew top of purse to purse handle/clasp. Repeat for other side.
Sc the two edges of remaining purse together all along outer edge, do not fasten off. Turn
*Ch 10, Sc in next sc*. Repeat from * for rest of purse edge.
Weave in all ends
Attach purse chain to clasp OR:
Using red and gold thread together or 2 strands of gold, ch 70, fasten off. Attach each end to clasp, weave in ends.
The size 2 hook is an American size. They are smaller metal needles for fine, small, lace-work and are used with the crochet cottons that come sized that are numbered insted of by name such as worsted weight.
I wanted to know what size a 2hook is, as Americans have Letters on theirs, rather than numbers, please?
