Vinyl LP Record Bangle

Vinyl LP Record Bangle

Create a bangle using an old LP record.

What you need

1 LP vinyl record
Scissors or blade
Oven mitts
Oven tray
aluminum foil

Instructions

Place a sheet of aluminum on the bottom of your oven purely as a precaution in case it melts beyond rescue to avoid a massive clean up job.

Take your record and place it onto the oven tray and slide it into the hot oven. It will only take a few minutes for the record to become soft and flexible. Using your oven mitts take the record out as soon as it looks soft.

It will start to droop and deform when it is becoming soft, that is when it is ready to work with.

For the bangles you will need to cut the record into 1 1/2 inch wide strip. You will do this when it is soft, either with a blade or scissors.

You will need to work quickly as it will begin to re-harden, you can place it back into the oven to soften again at any time.

Once you have cut the album into a strip, place it back into the oven and soften it again. This time you will free form the bracelet around your wrist to gauge the desired length.

Mark it and then pop it back into the oven to soften and next time cut the ends to the desired length and round off any corners with the scissors for a polished finish.

Alternatively you can leave it unshaped and bendy for a melted look. Both versions are shown in the picture above.

Once you are happy with the general shape, place it back into the oven to soften slightly pull it out and once it is cool enough to touch place it around your wrist and press firmly. This will custom shape the bangle to your wrist and make it sit comfortably.

If you have any sharp edges you can use a fine sandpaper or emery board to smooth over the edges.

Comments

  1. What is the temperature of the oven?

  2. Thought the idea was awesome, but tried it just now and the result wasn’t that good. The record I had was malleable but it was very difficult to make into the desired shape. Also, I didn’t get those cool-looking stripes on the bangles. 🙁

  3. my mommy is gonna help me make it in like a couple of minutes!!!

  4. OMG that is like the best thing since sliced bread, hell yeah am i making one

  5. I’ve seen records in colors too (red, blue, green, yellow) Probably kids records. The ones I remember were 45’s, paired to a book… Little Golden or Disney maybe. They would work great for this if one could find any…. Thrift stores best bet.
