Snowy Pinecone Candle Holders – A Cozy Winter Craft with Sparkle and Scent

Snowy Pinecone Candle Holders – A Cozy Winter Craft with Sparkle and Scent

When the air turns crisp and the scent of pine fills the air, you know it’s time to bring that winter magic indoors. These Snowy Pinecone Candle Holders are a simple, stunning way to add a touch of rustic charm to your holiday décor. They’re sparkly, cozy, and give serious woodland-lodge vibes—with just a handful of materials (most of which you might already have stashed in the craft cupboard!).
I made a few of these for my holiday table last year, and guests kept asking where I bought them. Spoiler alert: these are completely DIY, totally affordable, and almost too easy to make.
Let’s dive in and make some snowy sparkle, shall we?

What you need

Glass jarsRecycled jam jars, mason jars, or yogurt pots work great

Pinecones – Real or faux, small to medium in size

Epsom salt or coarse white glitter – For that frosty snow effect

Mod Podge or white glue

Twine or ribbon – Optional, for wrapping around the rim

Mini tealight candles – Battery-operated if you prefer safety

Hot glue gun

Cinnamon sticks or dried orange slices – Optional embellishments

Small paintbrush or sponge

Spray sealer – Optional but helps preserve the snow effect

Instructions

Step 1: Clean & Prep Your Jars

Wash and dry your jars thoroughly. Remove any labels or glue residue. If the jar rims are sharp or uneven, wrap with jute twine or ribbon for a rustic touch (and a finger-friendly finish!).

Step 2: Add Your Faux Snow

Brush a generous layer of Mod Podge onto the outside of each jar, focusing on the bottom third or halfway up for a dipped-in-snow look.

While the glue is still wet, roll or sprinkle Epsom salt (or glitter) onto the glue. Shake off the excess and let it dry for at least 30 minutes. You can add a second coat for extra texture.

Tip: Mix a pinch of iridescent glitter into your Epsom salt for subtle sparkle when the candlelight glows.

Step 3: Frost Your Pinecones

Using the same method, dab glue onto the tips of your pinecones. Dip or sprinkle them with your snow mixture. Let dry completely. These will sit beautifully next to or slightly atop the jars.

Optional: A light mist of spray sealer helps the “snow” stay put longer, especially if gifting.

Step 4: Embellish

Wrap the jar rims with twine or a festive ribbon. Tuck in a cinnamon stick or tie on a dried orange slice for a pop of scent and color. If you’re feeling extra fancy, add a little wooden tag or a mini jingle bell.

Step 5: Assemble Your Scene

Place a tealight candle inside the jar. Arrange snowy pinecones around the base or even glue one directly to the jar rim for a charming topper.

Important Note: If using real tealight candles, keep embellishments away from the flame and never leave unattended.

Display & Gifting Ideas

  • Use them as luminaries on your porch or windowsill for a glowing welcome.
