Instructions

A big thank you to Julie W. for sharing this fun idea just in time for Easter.

To make this project, you’ll need stacking eggs from Dollar Tree, a hot glue gun and glue sticks, firm cardboard for bunny ears, wood skewers for added strength, green spray paint, preserved or artificial moss, spray adhesive or hot glue, hairspray to reduce shedding, a small flower pot, and rocks, dirt, or something heavy to weigh down the pot.

Start by stacking the eggs and using hot glue to secure them in place. Make sure they are stable and allow the glue to dry completely before moving on. Next, create bunny ears by cutting two ear shapes from firm cardboard. For extra durability, place a wood skewer between two layers of cardboard and glue them together. Attach the ears to the top of the stacked eggs with hot glue, using the skewers to provide support so they don’t flop over. Let the glue dry completely.

Now it’s time to paint. Using green spray paint, coat the entire topiary evenly. The green paint helps to hide any gaps in the moss later, making the finished product look fuller and more polished. Let the paint dry before continuing.

Once dry, it’s time to add the bunny ears and then the moss. Spray adhesive is the best option for this, as it makes the process much easier, but hot glue will also work. Work in small sections, applying adhesive and pressing the moss onto the surface. Keep going until the entire topiary is covered. If any gaps remain, fill them in as needed.

Now that the bunny topiary is covered in moss, it needs to be secured in a pot. Fill a small flower pot with rocks, dirt, or another heavy material to keep it stable. Use hot glue to attach the base of the topiary to the pot, ensuring it stands upright.

To keep the moss from shedding, give it a light mist of hairspray once everything is in place. This helps hold everything together and keeps loose pieces from making a mess.

And that’s it! Your Dollar Tree Easter Bunny Topiary is ready to display. Set it on a table, mantle, or entryway for a festive touch.  If you give this project a try, be sure to share your results. Happy crafting and Hoppy Easter!
