Mason Jar Photo Frame

Mason Jar Photo Frame

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a cupboard full of jars just waiting for their moment of glory. Enter: the Mason Jar Photo Frame—a charming, heartfelt project that turns ordinary jars into keepsake-worthy décor.
I first made one of these for my mum’s birthday (complete with a photo of her and Aloo, of course). It sat on her windowsill for months—and yep, it totally sparked tears. So now I make them regularly for teacher gifts, memory shelves, or even table centrepieces.

What you need

Mason jars (any size will do, but wide-mouth work best)

Matte Mod Podge or decoupage glue

Foam brush

A printed photo (laser print for best results)

Optional: twine, ribbon, dried flowers, lace, washi tape, or tags

Scissors

A ruler or washi tape (to help line things up)

Instructions

  1. Choose your jar
Clean and dry your mason jar thoroughly. Remove any labels or sticky residue.
  2. Prep your photo
Resize your image to fit the flat side of the jar. Print using a laser printer (inkjet prints can smudge). Trim the edges to match the curve of the jar.
  3. Apply the glue
Using a foam brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the back of the photo. Press it onto the inside wall of the jar (facing out). Smooth out any air bubbles.
  4. Seal it in
Once it’s dry, add another coat of Mod Podge over the front of the photo for protection. Let it cure for a few hours.
  5. Embellish your heart out
Wrap the top with twine, add a vintage key, tuck in a dried flower stem, or attach a kraft paper tag with a sweet note. Get as fancy or as rustic as you like.

Display Ideas

  • Memory jar: Add a small string of fairy lights for a soft glow.
  • Wedding centrepieces: Fill with lavender and add a photo of the couple.
  • Seasonal décor: Pop in a winter photo and add a snow-dusted pine sprig.
  • Use tinted Mod Podge for a vintage sepia tone.
  • Skip the glue if you want to swap photos out regularly—just tape it to the inside with clear dots.
  • Want to make it waterproof? Use dishwasher-safe Mod Podge.

This Mason Jar Photo Frame is more than just a pretty upcycle—it’s a tiny time capsule that tugs at the heartstrings. And in a world of fast everything, there’s something so lovely about slowing down and crafting with purpose.
