Work K1, P1 ribbing for 8 rounds.

Switch to orange. Knit 2 rounds.

Heel

You’ll now work flat on one needle (Needle 1). Keep the other needle resting (Needle 2).

Work 6 rows back and forth in stockinette (knit a row, purl a row).

Heel Shaping (short rows):

Knit 6, K2tog, turn.

Slip 1, P3, P2tog, turn.

Slip 1, K3, K2tog, turn.

Slip 1, P3, P2tog, turn.

Slip 1, K4, K2tog, turn.

You’ll have 4 stitches left on Needle 1, forming a rounded heel.

Pick Up & Gusset

Knit across Needle 1. Pick up 5 sts along heel edge (9 sts total).

With Needle 2, knit across 10 sts.

With a 3rd needle, pick up 5 sts along the other side of heel (now 14 sts on Needle 1, 10 sts on Needle 2).

Gusset Decreases

On Needle 1: K2tog, knit to last 2 sts, SSK (12 sts).

On Needle 2: Knit all sts.

Repeat decrease rounds until each needle has 10 sts (20 sts total).

Foot

Knit in rounds until sock measures about 2″ from heel (or use your index finger as a quick guide).

Toe (switch to white):

Knit 2 rounds in white.

Then decrease as follows:

Needle 1: K2tog, knit to last 2 sts, SSK.

Needle 2: K2tog, knit to last 2 sts, SSK.

Knit 1 round plain.

Repeat until 4 sts remain on each needle.

Finishing the Toe

Turn bootie inside out. Hold stitches on 2 needles together.

Knit across, working 1 st from each needle together.

Bind off snugly. This reinforces the toe and prevents holes.

Baby Hat (3–6 Months)

Cast On & Band

With yellow, cast on 60 sts and divide evenly on 2 needles (30 sts each).

Place marker and join in the round.

Knit 12 rounds in yellow.

Orange Stripe

Switch to orange and knit 8 rounds.

Begin decrease: K6, K2tog around.

Knit 1 round plain.

Repeat decrease round and plain round 8 more times.

White Stripe & Crown

Switch to white, knit 2 rounds.

K6, K2tog around. Knit 1 round plain.

Repeat 6 times.

Then work K4, K2tog around, continue decreasing every round until 10 sts remain.

Work K2, K2tog around. Continue decreasing until only a few sts remain.

Cut yarn, pull tail through stitches, and secure.

Finishing Touches

Weave in all ends neatly.

Lightly block if desired, but the yarn’s natural stretch will help the booties and hat fit snugly.
