Knitted Easter Bunny

Here is a pattern with variations for dress for an Easter bunny.

What you need

white and pink 8-ply or medium/worsted weight yarn; a puffy yarn was used for the sample
scrap of brown yarn or embroidery thread
pair of size 4 US (3.5 mm) knitting needles
stuffing for toys

Finished size is about 11 inches/28/5 cm tall and 5 inches/12.5 cm around

Knitting the Body:

Cast on 10 stitches using Β 8 ply, Double Worsted, DK yarnΒ 

Purl 1 row.

Knit in the front and back of every stitch. 20 stitches.

Starting with a purl row, work in Stockinette Stitch for 7 rows.

Next row: K5, kfb twice, k6, kfb twice, k5. 24 stitches.

Work in Stockinette Stitch for 11 rows.

Knit 2 together across. 12 stitches.

Purl 1 row.

Bind off.

Knitting the Head:

Cast on 12 stitches.

Purl 1 row.

Knit in the front and back of each stitch. 24 stitches.

Starting with a purl row, work in Stockinette Stitch for 13 rows.

Knit 2 together across. 12 stitches.

Purl 1 row.

*K2tog, k2. Repeat from * across. 8 stitches.

Purl 1 row.

K2tog across. 4 stitches.

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread yarn onto a yarn needle and slip remaining stitches onto yarn. Pull tight and secure to make the nose.

Knitting the Legs (make 2):

Cast on 8 stitches.

Purl 1 row.

Knit in the front and back of each stitch. 16 stitches.

Starting with a purl row, work in Stockinette Stitch for 3 rows.

K3, k2tog, k3tog twice, k2 tog, k3. 10 stitches.

Beginning with a purl row, work in Stockinette Stitch for 8 rows.

K2tog across. 5 stitches.

Cast off in purl.

Knitting the Arms (make 2):

Cast on 5 stitches.

Knit in the front and back of every stitch. 10 stitches.

Starting with a purl row, work in Stockinette Stitch for 9 rows.

K3, k2tog twice, k3. 8 stitched.

Work in Stockinette Stitch for 4 rows.

Purl two together across. 4 stitches.

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread yarn onto yarn needle and slip remaining stitches onto yarn.

Knitting the Ears:

Cast on 10 stitches.

Purl 1 row.

Knit in the front and back of each stitch. 12 stitches.

Starting with a purl row, work in Stockinette Stitch for 16 rows.

K2tog, k to the last 2 stitches, k2tog. 10 stitches.

Purl 1 row.

Repeat these 2 rows until 2 stitches remain, ending with a purl row.

Change to pink yarn. Knit in the front and back of both stitches. 4 stitches.

Purl 1 row.

Kfb, k to last stitch, kfb. 6 stitches.

Starting with a purl row, work in Stockinette Stitch for 14 rows.

K2tog, k2, k2tog. 4 stitches.

Bind off.

Fold so the pink section is inside the white section of the ear and sew down.

To finish, sew seams in body, arms, legs and head, adding stuffing as you go. Embellish the face as desired.

Optional Knit Dress (make 2 pieces):

The dress uses a small amount of 8ply/medium/worsted weight yarn and size 4 US (3.5 mm) knitting needles.

Cast on 36 stitches.

Knit 2 rows.

*Knit 1, slip 1. Repeat from * across.

Purl 1 row.

Repeat these 2 rows.

Knit 2 rows.

Work in Stockinette Stitch for 12 rows.

Knit 2 together across. 18 stitches.

K2 tog, knit across. Repeat 5 more times. 12 stitches.

Bind off.

For the dress straps, cast on 3 stitches, knit 8 rows and bind off. Make two.

Sew straps to dress and sew up side seams. Embellish with ribbon, buttons, embroidery, etc. as desired.

Optional Knit Overall Pants (make two):

The pants use a small amount of 8ply/medium/worsted weight yarn and size 4 US (3.5 mm) knitting needles.

Cast on 24 stitches.

Knit 2 rows.

Work in Stockinette Stitch for 12 rows.

Knit 4 rows.

Bind off.

To make the straps, cast on 2 stitches, work in Stockinette Stitch for 28 rows and bind off.

Sew the pieces together so they work like pant legs, and sew the straps to the top. Add embellishment as desired.

    Before I start, I would appreciate it if you answered all the questions above, also to woman who asked, I think by st-st, she means stockinette stitch… and be careful, it says ‘inch’ where it should say inc, meaning increase.

  4. With norman yarn, (like red heart super saver) you have to triple the pattern.
