How to Press Autumn Leaves

1. Collect leaves on a dry day so they’re not damp.
2. Place between paper (baking paper or old newspaper works).
3. Press in a heavy book for 5–7 days until completely dry and flat.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 – Prepare Your Base

If you’re using a cheese box, remove the base so it’s just a cylinder. For jars or tins, ensure they’re clean and dry.
Tip: If you want a softer glow, wrap the jar in tissue before adding leaves.

Step 2 – Attach the Tissue Paper

Cut tissue paper to fit around your lantern base. Brush on a thin coat of PVA glue and gently press the tissue on, smoothing out bubbles. This layer will help diffuse the light.

Step 3 – Add the Leaves

Arrange your pressed leaves on top of the tissue layer. Play with overlapping and mixing colours for depth. Brush a little glue on the back of each leaf to hold it in place.
