What you need
2 tbsp cold-pressed castor oil
2 tbsp sweet almond oil (or jojoba oil)
Optional: 3 drops lavender or frankincense essential oil
Instructions
You know that feeling when your face wash leaves your skin tight, red, or just plain confused? I’ve been there too many times. With a house full of teenagers, a dog who sheds year-round, and a schedule that doesn’t quit, the last thing I need is a fussy nighttime skincare routine.
Enter castor oil. This unassuming bottle has become my go-to for removing makeup, cleansing the day away, and treating my skin with a little love—all in one go. It’s simple, natural, and honestly one of the best skin decisions I’ve made since switching to tinted moisturizer in my 40s.
This cleansing oil is gentle enough for daily use and effective enough to handle sunscreen, mascara, and the emotional residue of Monday. Let’s make it together!
How to Make It:
- Combine all ingredients in a small glass jar or dropper bottle.
- Shake gently before each use to blend the oils evenly.
How to Use It:
- Start with a dry face—don’t splash water on yet!
- Apply a small amount (around a dime-sized puddle) and massage into skin for 1–2 minutes.
- Don’t forget your jawline and those stubborn areas around the nose.
- Drape a warm, damp washcloth over your face for a mini steam.
- Gently wipe away oil, dirt, and makeup.
- Pat skin dry and follow with your favourite light moisturizer if needed (I often skip it—this is so nourishing already!).
Why This Works:
- Castor oil is a natural cleansing oil that draws out dirt, impurities, and leftover makeup.
- Sweet almond oil balances castor oil’s richness, moisturises deeply, and is full of skin-loving vitamins.
- Essential oils (if you choose to add them) can help soothe, balance or even tone the skin with a beautiful natural scent.
Tips & Variations:
- Adjust your ratio based on skin type.
- Oily skin? Try 3 parts almond to 1 part castor oil.
- Dry skin? Stick with a 1:1 mix.
- Store in a glass dropper bottle for mess-free application.
- Not a fan of almond oil? Swap it for grapeseed or avocado oil.
This isn’t one of those “one-size-fits-all” beauty miracles. It’s a simple recipe that works for me, and it might work beautifully for you too—especially if your skin’s been acting like a grumpy toddler lately.
Try it for a week, and your skin just might thank you by looking calmer, softer, and more glowy than it has in ages.
