Lighted Glass Blocks

Lighted Glass Blocks

Create a themed lighted glass blocks to add extra sparkle to your next party or celebration.

What you need

You will need a glass block, the kind used to make a privacy wall in the bathroom.
Next you’ll need ribbon and a bow, a strand of mini lights (I recommend 35 on a strand), hot glue, flowers, and a variety of items you can add to the block depending on the theme you are creating.

Instructions

Drill a hole where ever you need it , depending on if you want the block to stand up or lay flat.

Wrap the edges with ribbon and add a bow.  Seal both with hot glue.

In addition,  I’ve used toys, flowers, dolls, bells, etc.

These blocks will last forever and are somewhat heavy.

I’ve made them for wedding gifts, baby shower gifts, birthdays, anniversary gifts, and I’ve made many of them for funerals since they, unlike flowers, won’t die.

I put a photo of the deceased person on the block and the families love them.

This is not a difficult craft to make, just takes imagination and patience.

I have included photos of ones I’ve taken orders for. I do not make them in advance so the customer can choose the theme and the colors.

Can you use hot glue to put bow on top of lighted glass block I thought glass would get
hot and glue would not hold?

  2. How did you make the football image on the block? My son would love that!

Sorry it has taken me so long to answer your question about the football picture on the glass block. I took the picture from the internet, saved it to my computer and then printed it on my inkjet printer. I cut it to fit and used a spray glue on the block and then applied the picture. I let it get completely dry (just a few minutes). I suggest you might want to put a light coat of Modpodge to protect it. Hope this helps and once again, I’m sorry it took me so long.

  3. How do you apply the pictures? And do you print your pics on special paper? Yours are beautiful!!

Where can I find the small 20 light strings to put inside the Block? I don’t like the LED lights, I Prefer the Soft Warm White Lights that looks like Candle Light. You can contact me at:sandyshorses2@yahoo.com.
    Thank you!

  7. HOW DO YOU DRILL A HOLE IN THE GLASS BLOCK WITHOUT CRACKING THE BLOCK? I BOUGHT A VINTAGE GLASS BLOCK, TRIED TO DRILL A HOLE IN IT AND BINGO IT CRACKED. HELP?

    • you have to use a diamond drill bit and you have to have another person run water over the bit while your drilling. Do it outside with a hose. Also don’t use too much presure, take it slow. make sure that the water stops just as you are about to break through so that you don’t get water inside the block.

      • Actually most hobby stors carry the glass block with a hole already drilled in it they are called Krafty blocks

  8. Is the sleigh made with 1 light only? what type? stephr@nobletitle.net

  9. How do you get the photos to look transparent? Is it just from the lights around the block or did you somehow place the pics inside the block? I absolutely love this idea, they are beautiful 🙂
    Thank you

  10. That is a great gift idea. I am thinking of using it outdoors. Would it hold up in the cold/winter? Maybe using it to light the walkway. I can be reached at : Reba1034@hotmail.com
    Thanks so much.!
