How to do a winged lace crochet stitch

This light and airy stitch design has lots of open spaces, making it especially suitable for warm-weather projects. Working under chain spaces rather than into individual chain stitches will make crocheting this pattern a breeze!

Instructions

Chain a multiple of 10 + 4.

Foundation Row (RS): Dc in the sixth ch from the hook, *ch 1, skip the next ch, dc in the next ch; repeat from the * across, turn.

Row 1 (WS): Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1 here and throughout), skip the first dc and ch-1 sp, *dc in the next dc, ch 1, skip the next ch-1 sp; repeat from the * across, ending with dc in the next dc, ch 1, dc in the third ch of the turning-ch-4, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the first dc, *ch 5, [skip the next ch-1 sp, skip the next dc] twice, working in front of the next ch-1 sp (page 134), slip st in the next ch-1 sp 2 rows below, ch 5, skip the next dc, skip the next ch-1 sp] twice, sc in the next dc in current row; repeat from the * across, ending with ch 5, [skip the next ch-1 sp, skip the next dc] twice, working in front of the next ch-1 sp, slip st in the next ch-1 sp 2 rows below, ch 5, [skip the next dc, skip the next ch-1 sp] twice, sc in the third ch of the turning-ch-4, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in the first sc, *[ch 1, skip the next ch-1 sp 2 rows below, working in front of the ch-5 loop of the previous row, dc in the next dc 2 rows below] 4 times, ch 1, sc in the next sc in current row; repeat from the *across, turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in the first sc, *ch 5, [skip the next ch-1 sp, skip the next dc] twice, working in front of the next ch-1 sp, slip st in the next ch-1 sp 2 rows below, ch 5, [skip the next dc, skip the next ch-1 sp] twice, sc in the next sc in current row; repeat from the * across, turn.

Row 5: As Row 3. turn.

Row 6: Ch 4, skip the first sc and ch-1 sp, *dc in the next st, ch 1, skip the next ch-1 sp; repeat from the * across, ending with dc in the last sc, turn.

Repeat Rows 1-6 for the pattern.
