I made a batch of these with my teens one weekend (even Aloo, our dog, got a paw print in one of them!). We used everything from dollar-store gems to leftover crockery, and let me tell you—the results were chef’s kiss.

What you need
Quick-set concrete mix
Round plastic plant saucer or cake pan (as mold)
Mosaic tiles, broken plates, or glass gems
Cooking spray (for mold release)
Bucket & mixing stick
Gloves & safety glasses
Old rag or sponge
Grout (optional, for a smoother finish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prep Your Mold
Spray the inside of your mold with cooking spray or line it with a plastic bag. This helps release the stone later.
Step 2: Get Artsy with Your Design
Lay your mosaic pieces face-down inside the mold. Remember, what you see is what will show on the top of the stepping stone! Play around with color blocks, mandala patterns, or go full Picasso.
Step 3: Mix & Pour the Concrete
Mix your concrete until it’s a peanut butter-like consistency (thick but pourable). Carefully pour it into the mold, smoothing out the back with your stir stick or hand (gloves on!).
Step 4: Let it Set
Let your masterpiece cure for 24-48 hours. Once solid, flip the mold and pop it out. If needed, wipe off any concrete haze from your mosaic bits with a damp sponge.
Optional: Grouting
If you want a perfectly smooth top and secure pieces, you can grout between the mosaic tiles after the concrete sets.
Step 5: Place It in the Garden
Nestle your new stone into your mulch path, pot plant display, or flower bed. They look stunning in clusters!
