How to make a Unicorn Dreamcatcher

How to make a Unicorn Dreamcatcher

Make this super cute Unicorn dreamcatcher in few easy steps and reasonable materials. This dream catcher can be a great gift for a unicorn fan or for birthday party decorations. We have tried to incorporate as simple steps as possible so that the little ones can help you along as well.

As per Wikipedia, dreamcatchers are a handmade willow hoop, on which is woven a net or web. We have just added a fun little variation on it to make it interesting for your unicorn obsessed fan! If you make one, let us know in the comments how it turned out.

What you need

Loop for the dreamcatcher
Satin fabric – white
Yarn, Floss, Threads and Ribbons – color of your choice
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun
Craft Paper – 3-4 different shades of pink
Golden Craft Paper

Instructions

Step 1:

Select the loop for your dream-catcher. The size of the loop would depend on choice. I used a long strip of satin fabric to wrap the entire loop, but you can use any kind of material as you like.

Prepare strands of threads, floss, yarn and ribbons, the length of these strands shouldn’t vary much, better to keep them all of the same length, we can always trim them later.

Cut out a horn pattern from a foam sheet and the same horn pattern from a golden craft paper.

We’ll be covering any one side of the foam horn with the craft paper horn pattern.

Step 2:

Take 2 different colored yarn thread and tie them separately with the loop. Take any one of the tied yarns and wrap it inside the randomly to create a web pattern inside the loop. Once you’re done wrapping the first yarn take the second one and wrap it randomly to create a second layer of web inside the loop. Tie knot at the end and trim extra thread if required.

Step 3:

Select craft paper for the flowers, I used 3 different shades of pink. Cut out a spiral pattern and a 7 petaled piece with an extra part near any one of the petals at the end. Create rolled rose using the spiral pattern and glue the open ends of the 7 petaled paper to close the pattern. Glue the rolled rose on the centre of the 7 petaled flower. Similarly, create 4 or 5 more flowers.

Step 4:

Take the thread strands prepared in step one. Fold a group of the strand into half and bring the looped part under the dream catcher loop. Draw the open ends of the strands through the strand’s loop and pull the open ends downwards to tighten the knot. Similarly attach the rest of the thread strands with the dream-catcher loop.

Step 5:

Cut out a curved pattern and 2 unicorn ear patterns from white cardstock paper; also 2 smaller unicorn ear pattern from pink craft paper. Glue the pink ear patterns on the white ear pattern for both pieces. Glue the flowers, the golden horn and the ears on the curved paper.

And finally, glue the curved paper on the dream-catcher loop to the opposite direction of the strands.

Done!

You can create tons of variation for this dream-catcher. Gather all the supplies and get creative!
