Sock Monkey Bookmark – Crochet

Crochet a Sock Monkey bookmark for your kids. Or for yourself. This is a very simple pattern!

What you need

Small amount of white, red, black (I used Microspun for face pieces) and DenimStyle Rodeo Tan for body (you can also use 2 strands of #10 thread or DMC thread)
Hooks: G and D

Instructions

Stitches used: sl st – slip stitch, single crochet – sc, double crochet – dc
Abbreviations: ch – chain, st – stitch, sts – stitches, ea – each

Measurements: 8″ long from tip of head to end of tail, head is 2.5″ wide, tail is 1/2″ wide (all sizes approximate as no gauge used in making this pattern)

Use G hook for body, tail & mouth parts. Use D hook for eyes. Crochet in back loops only.

Body:
Row 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st into first sc, ch 1 (7sc)
Row 2: sc in same st as ch 1, 2 sc in ea st around, join to 1st sc with sl st, ch 1 (14sc)
Row 3: repeat Row 2 (28sc), do not ch 1 after sl st
Row 4: *sl st in next 5 sts, ch 1 in next st, 2 dc in next 2 sts (ear made), sl st next 5 sts,* ch 38, dc 3rd ch from hook, dc across to body, sl st to body, repeat from * to *, fasten off, weave in ends.

Mouth:
With small bit of red ch 6, turn, 5 sc across, fasten off.
With white attach to red with sl st anywhere, ch 1, sc in same st and ea st around, join with sl st, ch 1, fasten off.

Eyes (make 2):
With D hook & black, ch 2, 5 sc in loop, fasten off.

Either attach face parts to face with ends of face parts or weave them in and hot glue pieces to face.

This pattern can also be made using 2 strands of #10 or DMC thread held together throughout (brown/off white). If using 2 strands of thread throughout, use the D hook.
