Pyrex Casserole Carrier

Pyrex Casserole Carrier

This sewing pattern shows you how to make a casserole cover. The pattern below is for a Pyrex branded dish (6 inch x 8 inch * 21/2 inch) (15 cm x 20 cm x 6 cm), but you can adapt the pattern to suit your needs.

What you need

1/2 mt. of print fabric and 1/2 mt. of plain fabric

1 large button

Small amount of insulation foam

Instructions

Step 1: Cut out one oblong piece in print (30 inch x 6 inch)

Step 2: Fold in 1/2 and press.

Step 3: Now cut a piece out of your insulation foam (28 1/2 inch x 3 inch )

Step 4: Open your oblong piece up and stitch the two ends together. Use your press line as a guide, to keep the ends lined up and fold back over again. You should now have a circle.

Step 5: Now slip your insulation in and set aside.

Step 6: Next cut your base out – one in print and one in plain.( 8 1/2 inch x 6 1/2 inch)

Step 7: Cut a piece of insulation slightly smaller (just a fraction)

Step 8: Sew both pieces together but leave a gap so you can turn it and because you will need to push your piece of insulation in.

Step 9: Once you have finished your base you can stitch the sides to the base, either by machine or hand stitching.

Step 10: Now you need to make the handle: Cut a strip from print and plain fabric (28 inches x 4 inches).

Step 11: Round off the ends – Cut the plain fabric in 1/2 across the width and stitch the two pieces together. The opening will not be seen once you have stitched the handle in place.

Step 12 (Optional): It is not necessary to put insulation into the handle but it can be used as a stiffener.

Step 13: Stitch the gap closed and position the handle so it runs across the bottom and comes up on both sides and is buttoned so you can carry it. I put a button on, but you could make the strap much larger (length wise) and then use the extra length to tie a bow.
