Pringle Tin Top Hat Fascinator

Pringle Tin Top Hat Fascinator

This recycled craft project shows you how to turn a simple Pringles tin into a beautiful handmade, DIY top hat hair fascinator suitable for all type of social events and parties.

What you need

Pringle tin
Spray paint
Craft Glue
Card Stock
coordinating Ribbon, feathers and flower.

Instructions

Start by taking your Pringles tin and cutting it down to a suitable size (around 5 inch). You can make your top hat, high or low depending on your style.

Pringles Tin

Spray paint the tin and card stock.  Alternatively you can cover both the tin and base with printed fabric, felt or patterned paper.

Hat Fascinator

Cut the card stock into a circle for the brim of the top hat, again this could be a small brim or a large brim.  The card stock should be flexible otherwise it will not bend to sit flat on your head.

Glue the pringle tin to the card brim. Add a ribbon for embellishment around the top hat base.

Bend the hat onto your head by pressing firmly, this will bend the base/brim ready for wearing.

Black FEathers

Black Flower

Finish off your hat with feathers and flowers. We used a inexpensive flower and topped it with black craft feathers.

  1. @reefdiver, I’m pretty sure it means that you can cut it to suit your own taste, you may like to have a wider brim for your hat, or leave it quite narrow.
Also, the crafter is saying that the cardboard you use for this should be flexible. Not that thick cardboard from a storage box.

I quite like this idea. It is very stylish looking. Perhaps you could use the smaller 40g Pringles tube, so you don’t have to cut anything?

  2. I love doing crafts and I think this is a very cute idea. You can have the supplies all together and have a few girlfirends over for a hat making party.

They possibly could be glued to a hair band so it would stay on your head better. You can embellish in so many different ways. Use your imagination!

If anyone goes to a nursing home this could be a cute little craft idea for the ladies. If they are unable to use their hands for this, someone could sit by them and help or make the hat but have the lady tell you what cute little things she wants on her hat. My Red Hat chapter did something like this several years agao but we made the “Bra” purses. The gals had a wonderful time and the patients had so much fun and we took pictures of them with their finished purses.

  3. I don’t understand the part about the Cut the card stock into a circle for the brim of the top hat, again this could be a small brim or a large brim. The card stock should be flexible otherwise it will not bend to sit flat on your head. Please update this. Remember we have never made it before so we don’t know what to do in it. But you do. Thanks!
