Make Rub on Decals

Make Rub on Decals

A very simple and creative idea to make your own rub on decals. It can't be easier than this!

What you need

8.5 x 11 Transparency or page protector
Computer printer with Mirror
Image settings
Paddle Pop Sticks

Instructions

Using your computer program create your images and design.

Once you are happy with the design select “Mirror image” setting. This reverses the image. It is the same setting you would use for iron on papers etc.

Print on the glossy side of the transparency or on either side of a page protector.

You will need to let the ink dry for 10 minutes. Allow it to dry before touching it.

Once dry just use it like a regular rub-on. Use a Popsicle stick to rub it onto the surface with.

  1. Didn’t work for me either with the transparency or page protector. And the ink was very light and rubbed right off.

What did I do wrong? I have a HP Deskjet 4300

  2. Ink didn’t take to the page protector, can I use hair spray first before printing to make it set?

  3. I actually did try this project. it took a little practice (my printer is a piece of junk and there’s a paper jam every other print job) but i got it to work and it really does work. thanks a lot!

  4. Does this not work if you’re trying to do text? I hope it does!!!!

  5. It sounds like a great idea, I tried but my ink doesn’t dry!

  6. dark colors tend to bead-up on plastic so even re-using the same pic, very pce is distinctly different. I use this technique on wood. use the shiny side of transparancy & when done wipe with paper towel & then damp paper towel so you can re-use.

  7. I tired this, but it just rubs off the paper I transfer it to! What did I do wrong?…

  8. CraftBits (Shellie Wilson) says

No the transparency becomes dented with the rubbing as it presses a impression into the plastic

  9. Works Great! Do you know if I can reuse the transparency?

  10. I make greeting cards and if this works it will save alot of time and money no more stamps or stickers. Transparencies are what you use for overhead projectores and is not the same as vellum the ink would not come of the vellum once it dries

  11. I use this using my ink jet printer and it works great!!!

  12. Hi All, Im very very new to scrapbooking and love the sound of this idea, is a transparency the same as vellum..
could someone plse answer this question.

  15. I haven’t tried yet but sound terrific

  16. I have GOT to try this!!! Sounds too easy to be true! Thanks very much for the info!

  17. doesn’t work for text tho – not as clear as ‘proper’ rub-ons.

  18. I love this idea! I love the idea of rub-ons but ive found they can be expensive… and now i can make ones i like and not go through a whole packet just for one. Thanks!!

  19. Ink jet or laser printer or does it matter?

  20. thank you so very much lol

  21. CraftBits (Shellie Wilson) says

Page protectors can be bought at any office or stationary supply store. Same with the transperancies

  22. same guest asking the same question to anyone who has the answer where do you get the page protectors or transpanrencys thanks

  23. where do you get the page protectors from?
