Crochet Valentine Bear

This little bear would look cute adorned onto clothing, beanies or used as an adorable baby card embellishment. Let your imagination run wild.

What you need

Small amount of worsted weight yarn (Brown)
Small amount of worsted weight yarn (Red)
Small amount of worsted weight yarn (Pink)
Crochet hook size I Finishing
1 Miniature pom pom (Pink, White or Black)1/3 yard (3/8″ wide) ribbon

Instructions

Finished Size: 7 1/2″ T x 6″ W

Gauge: Not important to overall size

Head: (Using Brown)

Rnd 1) Ch 4; 11 dc in 4th chain from hook; join with a slip st to 4th ch of beg. ch 4: 12 dc.

Rnd 2) Ch 1, sc in joining, ch 3, sc in same st, (Ear), sc in next 4 dc, ch 4, sc in same st, (Ear), slip st in next 4 dc. Do not end off.

Yoke: (Using Brown)

Row 1) Ch 3, 8 dc in same st; ch 1, turn work: 9 dc. Fasten off, secure ends.

Arm: (Using Brown)
Row 1) Right side facing, attach yarn to first dc worked (ch 3 turning chain) on Yoke, Row 1; Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st; ch 1, turn work; 2 sc.

Row 2) Sc in same st, dc in next st; ch 1, turn work.

Row 3) Sc in same st, sc in next st, ch 1, turn work.

Rows 4-5) Repeat instructions for Rows 2 & 3 once, omitting ch 1 for turning. Fasten off, leaving a 6″ thread.

Body: (Using Brown)

Row 1) Right side facing, attach yarn to next unworked dc (after arm) on Yoke, Row 1; Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc; ch 2, turn work: 7 dc.

Row 2) Dc in next 4 dc, decrease over last 2 dc; ch 2, turn work: 5 dc. Do not fasten off.

Leg: (Using Brown)

Row 1) Dc in next 2 dc; ch 2, turn work: 3 sts.

Row 2) Dc in next 2 dc; ch 2, turn work.

Row 3) Dc in next 2 dc. Fasten off, secure ends.

Opposite Leg: (Using Brown)

Row 1) Right side facing, attach yarn to same st as last dc worked on Row 2 of Body; Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc; ch 2, turn work: 3 sts.

Rows 2-3) Repeat instructions for Rows 2 & 3 for first Leg, once. Fasten off, secure ends.

Opposite Arm: (Using Brown)

Row 1) Right side facing, attach yarn to next un-worked st on Row 1 of Yoke; ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st; ch 1, turn work; 2 sc.

Rows 2-5) Repeat instructions for Rows 2 – 5 on first Arm, once. Fasten off, secure ends.

Heart Balloons: (Using Red and Pink)(Make 3 balloons; 2 red, 1 pink)

Ch 3; join with a slip st in first chain to form a ring.

Rnd 1) Ch 1; (2 sc, ch 2) 4 times in ring; join with a slip st in first sc, slip st in next space.

Row 2) (Dc in next 2 sc, slip st in next space) twice. Fasten off, secure ends.

Finishing:

Using 6″ length of yarn left on arm, tack arm to body of bear. Secure ends.

Glue each heart balloon to ends of each toothpick. Glue toothpicks to back side of arm at varying lengths as desired.

Glue eyes on, glue pom pom for a nose to center of face and tie ribbon into a bow and glue to one side of bear at neck. Glue magnet to backside.
