Cell Phone Cozy

This is a simple pattern to make a cell phone cozy.

What you need

3.5oz (100g) Paton’s Classic Merino Wool
Size 7 US (4.5mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
1 button

Instructions

20 stitches (sts) and 26 rows = 4 inch (10cm) in Stockinette St (knit 1 row, purl 1 row).

Abbreviations: RS = right side; WS = wrong side; P = purl; K = knit; SI1 = slip 1 stitch; psso = pass slipped stitch over; yrn = yarn round needle; P2tog = purl 2 stitches together.

Cast on 22 stitches.
Proceed as follows:
Row 1 (RS): P2. *SI1. K2. psso. P2; Rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: K2. *P1. yrn. P1. K2; Rep from * to end of row.
Row 3: P2. *K3. P2; Rep from * to end of row. Row 4: K2. *P3. K2; Rep from * to end of row. These 4 rows form pattern.

Continue in pattern until work from beginning measures 11 ins [28cm], ending with WS facing for next row.

Note: You may lengthen according to the size of your cell phone.

Antenna hole:
Bind off 6 sts. 16 sts.
Work in pattern to end of row. Work 3 more rows in pattern. Cast on 6 sts. 22 sts. Continue in pattern until work from beginning measures 13.75 ins [35cm] ending with Row 3 of pattern facing for next row.

Make Buttonhole:
Row 1 (RS): Work in pattern 10 sts. Bind off 2 sts. Work in pattern to end of row.
Next row: Work Row 4 of pattern, casting on 2 sts over bound off sts. Work in pattern to end of row.
Next row: (P2tog. SI1. K2. psso) twice. P2tog. (SI1. K2. psso. P2tog.) twice. 17 sts.
Knit 2 rows.

Bind off all sts knitwise on WS.

Fold bottom edge up to where first bind off is and sew side seams. Sew on button

  1. i have been wanting to make a phone pocket thing, and i love this! but all of my knitting skills have gone out of the window – along with one of each pair of needles i have, can i ask if anyone knows a crochet alternative? i’m not as fond of the crochet one available.
