Time Out Doll

Time Out Doll

This sewing pattern shows you how to make a Time out doll who has his or head down in the naught corner. You can recycle old kids clothes to make a sentimental time out doll for Grandma or Grandpa.

What you need

outfits
shoes
footed pajama sleeper
hot glue
hat or fake hair
odd toys
shoes
batting
nylon stockings
googly eyes
marker ect to decorate.
wood dowels

Instructions

Get a outfit and matching shoes ( I check the local DI , thrift stores, or clearance racks.)

The size should be about 18 months to 24 months, get a footed pajama sleeper as well.

Take your batting and start stuffing the foot of the sleepers, you want them to be kind of firm, put a dab of hot glue, on the end of one dowel and place it in the stuffing, make sure you cut the dowel to about the hip area of the pajamas. Continue stuffing the legs, and body till you get to the neck.

Now take the nylon, and stuff it round, ( some people use a ball, or styro foam instead. ) tie this together you only need the foot of the nylon. ( DO not throw the other part away there are other things you can do with them) glue the head to the body, you can also pin it but the glue holds it better. for those of you that like to sew you can even sew it to the body… now put the outfit on.

You now want to either add the yarn, fake hair or just a hat you can add a basket, for a girl, toys in pockets, small fishing rod, worms, animals etc for either as well.

I then take the hands and glue them together so they are folded (so they lean better in the corner) but  you can leave them down or put them in the pockets as well.

If you want to decorate the face, googly eyes, marker, etc. I have also used doll heads from the craft store, but they can be pricey. So this is a cheap unique gift. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them.

They will now stand in a corner or against a wall, move there leg dowels around some to make them the way you want them. They should look “real”. I get tons of compliments on mine, you can make these as simple or exciting as you want. You can add a wagon, a trike, bench, chairs, etc, to yours.

  1. Does anyone know how to make mummer dolls? The Newfoundland tradition!

  2. I think it’s so cute as far as child abuse it’s far from it it promotes a safe haven for the child to stand in a corner for a moment then physically being hurt ..I’m making several for my local fall festival was thinking of selling for $10.00 is that to cheap please advise thank you and thank you for posting this !

  3. We bought one years ago at a state fair and they had remote control “fart” machines in the pockets if the timeout timmys. So when you walked by the person who had the remote could make little timmy “poot” and it caused a ton of laughs. Im disabled now and looking for means of craft/hobby for bazaars for holidays hoping to give this a try. Also you can buy fart machines on amazon or novelty store.

  4. How do you make the head, hands, and feet?

You can not see the hands so it is only the ends of the arms

  5. I HAVE LOOKED AT ALOT OF PATTERNS, THIS LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE EASY.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU USE FOR THE ARMS AND THE HANDS ?
THANK YOU FOR THIS PROJECT, SHERRY

  6. Grandma of Four says

I made these dolls from scratch years ago and am planning to do them again now that I’m retired. However, for the person worried about child abuse, I called mine “Hide N Seek” dolls. Sold as quickly as I could make them.

    • How do you make them cause I want to make one for my boyfriend ,cause he loss his father about 6 months and I want to make it with his fathers clothes thank you

  7. the problem i had with a sleeper as the body was they stretch to much to ware the shoes and 2T clothes

  8. Child abuse? Seriously? If you need to worry about things wrong in this world, I should think you could have picked something a little more realistic.

These are adorable, I’m going to give it a shot, me, a mother of two wonderful young men in college, and a early childhood educator! Hope I’m not damned for all time :))

  14. This is a great and easy way of making something cute for your home! Thanks for posting how to make one. I was wondering how to do so. Your site REALLY helped a lot! Thanks 🙂

  15. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I HAVE SEVERAL OF THESE AND SO DO MY FRIENDS. AND FOR THE PERSON THAT SAYS THAT THIS IS PROMOTEING CHILD ABUSE, YOU SHOULD READ MORE ABOUT RAISEING CHILDREN. YOU HAVE TO HAVE SOME FORM OF DISIPLINE OF A CHILD IS GOING TO THINK YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT THEM. THEY KNOW WHEN THEY SHOULD BE PUNISHED BEFOR YOU DO.I RAISED FOUR AND GUESS WHAT THEY HAVE POUTING DOLLS IN THEIR HOUSES TOO. MY GRANDKIDS LOVE THEM. SO GO AHEAD EVERYONE MAKE THEM TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT.I DO .

  16. the previous poster is completely ignorant and completely missed the whole idea. this is by no means promoting child abuse. time out is a no-contact form of discipline that doesnt involve any physical contact whatsoever.
Cute idea, I can see something like this at my grandma’s house as a funny item.

  17. What are you promoting potential child abuse?
