St. Patrick’s Day Knit Coasters

St. Patrick’s Day Knit Coasters

These easy coasters can add a bit of color to your St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Work in a solid color with the shamrock worked in Reverse Stockinette Stitch (either side can be the 'front'), or use two colors for a more graphic look. Either way, this is a quick and easy project that brings a little Irish flair to your table in no time.

The basic pattern would also be great to use on a washcloth or dish towel, or work a bunch on a longer knit piece to make a table runner.

What you need

For the solid coaster I used about 10 yards for the smaller version and 14 yards for the larger version in Red Heart With Love in color Lettuce
For the green and white coaster I used 22 yards total of Red Heart Super Saver
one pair size 7 US (4.5 mm) knitting needles

Size:

Finished solid color coasters are 4.5 inches/11.5 cm tall and 5.5 inches/14 cm wide for the smaller version and 5.5 inches/14 cm square for the larger version.

The green and white coasters are about 5 inches/13 cm wide and 5.5 inches/14 cm tall. solid color shamrock coasters

Bind off and weave in ends. green and white shamrock coasters

Instructions for the Green and White Coasters:

Work as for Solid Color Coasters, but work the chart in the contrasting color. These are only shown in the larger size, but you could work them smaller, too, if you wanted, by working fewer rows of Stockinette Stitch before and after the chart.shamrock closeup

  1. People who already sign up for your newsletter shouldn’t have to do it over and over again just to view a pattern. If you don’t sign up again, you can not view the pattern.

  2. Love this project! I have a son with a birthday on St. Patrick’s Day and he will be turning 41. He lives in an apartment and does not have a lot of room so large gifts are out of the question. The St. Patrick’s Day coasters are the perfect solution – he also appreciates things that I make. Thank you for posting this!!!
