Sharpie Pen Project – Coffee Cup Love

What you need

Ceramic mug
Permanent Sharpie Pen

Instructions

Start by selecting a ceramic mug. Wash it and dry it. Next step is to think of some quirky saying or romantic notion to write onto the mug.

We went with “You are the cream in my coffee, together we make something wonderful”

Rather Soppy I know.

When you’re finished, just pop the mugs or plates into the oven (while the oven is still cold) and bring it up to 350°F (~175°C) for half-hour to set the design. Allow to cool. Do not be tempted to touch it.

Only Hand-wash to insure the longevity of your design.

We did another mug with a drawing by my daughter with a fun little saying “Coffee and Flowers – What every girl needs”

Comments

  1. Bettie Lou Meador says:

It worked for me because I coated it with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish. Three coats, I don’t put it in the dishwasher, it washes up really well. I do use it in the microwave.

  2. Very disappointed… It doesn’t work… I even tried to “cook” the mugs twice to make the designs stick but they don’t… Should’ve read the comments before spending the entire afternoon on this project!!!

  3. I really wish crafters would not post projects that are not durable such as these Sharpie on ceramic items.

  4. Sorry, even hand washing will remove the writing etc. so if you have done a design or have sentiments that are special – best used as a pencil holder or something that will not be washed much….
