Rainbow Cushion Cover

A beautiful knitted pattern - create a rainbow cushion cover.

What you need

5 oz (140g) Double knitting yarn in as many different colours as liked (left-over yarns can be used)
1 pair No. 8 (5mm) Knitting needles
4 Press studs

Instructions

Measurements

To fit a cushion 15 inch (38 cm) square.

Tension
5.5 sts. and 7.5 rows to 1 inch (2.5 cm).

Strips (make 3 alike).

Cast on 28 sts. and work in st.st. (1 row k., 1 row p.) until work measures 31 inch (79 cm).

Join a different color as often you like but always start new color on a k.

Cast off.

TO Make up

Join the 3 strips together by over sewing 2 long edges together on the wrong side. Fold strips in half, with right sides together to form a square.

Over sew side edges together then sew press studs to open edges, tops evenly spaced along one edge and bottoms to match on other.

Turn cushion cover right side out. Using 6 strands of one color or 2 strands each of 3 colors, make a plait long enough to go right round cover plus 16 inch (40 cm).

Sew plait round three joined edges of cover, leaving a 2-inch (5 cm) loop free at corners, then sew along one open edge.

Carefully fit your cover over a 15 inch (38 cm) square cushion. Fasten with press studs.

  4. CraftBits (Shellie Wilson) says

This is a vintage pattern with a black n white photo. It is called a rainbow pillow because the pattern uses multiple colors.

  5. Shouldnt the photo be..um..a pillow made in rainbow colors of yarn? Prett pattern but change the name or change the photo!
