Fake Potpourri Pie

Fake Potpourri Pie

A great house warming gift - this potpourri pie is sure to delight.

What you need

1 Large bag of potpourri
2 cups Flour
1 cup Salt
1 cup Water
1 Tinfoil pie tin

Instructions

Mix the flour, salt and water in a bowl and mix together. Roll out the dough into 1/8 inch thickness.

Lay this into the pie tin to form the base and trim the edges (just like making a pie). Or create just a pie top and use the tin to form the base.

Potpourri Pie Step 1

Potpourri Pie Step 1

Place some tin foil into the dish and mound it up to make it look like a full pie. Then using the left over dough create a lattice top by weaving strips.

Trim the edges and press together to secure.

Brush dough strips with butter and bake at 250 degrees for 30 minutes or until dry and pastry is hollow sounding.

Make sure the bottom is also dry – you can flip the pie to dry out the bottom for a few minutes.

You can also make this pie without the bottom base if it is to remain in its pie tin.

Once cooled spray with a clear varnish all over to preserve it.

Fill the pie tray with potpourri and pop the top back on.

  1. The only details that are missing and are quite important is that you need to add either Apple Pie scented oil or Apple and add a sprinkle of cinnamon over the potpourri. Use an eyedropper to put scented oils over the potpourri as it is very strong.
*Remember you want it to both Look good and Smell good too! You can also but berry scented oils if you’d rather make a berry or cherry pie.

I would make the base first and whilst it’s cooling down fully, use the same pie dish and turn it upside down. Place lattice as instructed *but, only go 1/2 – 3/4 of the way down or it will look more like a For than a real pie! Haha
    Have fun!

  2. Awful idea. : (

  3. just not a good idea

  4. This is really funny. If you give it to someone, they’ll think its real… PERFECT PRANK!

  5. I think it comes in the pie

  6. Looks really cute, but I don’t see where the potpourri comes in?

I have always made my potpourri pies in a terracotta dish with apple cinnamon fragrance oil soaked into the bottom and potpourri over that. When put on a very low heat stove it smells wonderful! I usually use fabric trim for the lattice top but am looking forward to trying this!

  7. Yummy Faux food is all the craze
