MasterChef Hat

MasterChef Hat

This free sewing project shows you how to make a chef's hat in true Masterchef style. Funk it up with unique fabrics to add some flair to your kitchen.

What you need

Interfacing
Scissors
Velcro

Instructions

Cut a 7-8 inch wide by 25-26 inch long piece of material AND piece of iron in interfacing.

Iron interfacing to wrong side of fabric. Fold fabric in half lengthwise and make a crease.

Fold lengthwise wrong side out stitch up sides. Turn right side out and iron.

Cut a 20-22 inch circle out of desired fabric. Make a four inch slit in the back and sew 1/4 inch double fold bias tape into the slit.

Take a running stitch around the circle starting at the slit as close to the edge as possible 3-5 times around to create a slight gather. Fold the circle in quarters and mark.  Do the same with the band.  Pin together so that the seam will be on the inside of the hat.

Make even pleats the entire way around the hat. Pin as you go.

Sew band to hat about 1/4 inch or so from the edge of the band.  Make sure none of the running stitch shows and all the pleats are caught.

Trim excess off of the inside to make a nice even looking edge and zigzag stitch to prevent fraying if you would like.

Place a piece of Velcro on the band to hold it shut.

  1. 20-22 inch circle – diametre or circumference?

  2. 5 star project…..my husband, the hunter & chef, was the recipient of a ‘camo’
chef hat. I enjoyed the project & it was fun to do.
