Master Mix Besquick Recipe Base

For gifts in a jar recipes, this master mix provides the basic base that you can use.

What you need

9 cups sifted all-purpose flour or 10 cups sifted soft wheat or cake flour
1/3 cup baking powder
1 tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups shortening which does not require refrigeration

Instructions

Stir baking powder, salt, cream of tartar and sugar into flour.

Mix in shortening till it resembles a crumbly mix. Store in covered containers at room temperature.

Quart size jar

This mix makes 13 cups of pre-made mix.

  2. This mastermix recipe is meant to be used in other recipes that calls for the “mastermix” it is not a stand alone recipe.

  3. This is what I’ve been looking for for a long time! I’ve been trying to find a good mix that I could pre-make and keep for awhile. I’ve used one that’s store-bought, but it didn’t give me the results I was looking for. Thanks for this recipe! (at first I didn’t see the ingredient list..but looked a second time and found the “materials” needed!)
