  1. I adapted the recipe so it’s more wildlife friendly. I use seed, oatmeal, cheerios and colored sugar. I’ve been making this since 1999. I now make it for my coworker’s kids in addition to my nieces and nephews who, even though in their teens, still indulge me and take it home on Christmas eve.

  2. I have done this for all 6 of kiddos to pass out to their Kindergarten class. They love it! We use sugar crystals or the super fine glitter and mix with raw oatmeal. Soooo cute. Just remember that in the morning, the kids want to see hoof prints in the oatmeal and a bit of it has always been eaten!

  3. i had this kind of thing in 2nd grade. only there was marshmallows and chocolate chips and the poem read something about if youre good you will get snowman snow and if youre bad youll get reindeer poop

  4. this is so great for little kids my kids love it!!

  5. My sister has done this for years with her sons; this year I am doing it with my daughter and stepsons. My sister always put a jingle bell out for each kid after the bouys went to bed as a gift from the reaindeer ;). The boys loved it and still have their sleighbell collection.

  6. Another version: 1/4 cup of oat meal and a tespoon of glitter.

Sprinkle the reindeer food in front of your house. The deer will smell the oatmeal and the moon will shine off the glitter, guiding the reindeer abd Santa to your house.

  7. Glitter is harmful for wildlife, substitute colored sugar!

  8. I love this idea!! I have used it with my niece and nephews. I am a teacher and plan to use it with my students. I sometimes add cinnamon or nutmeg to make the food smell good. 🙂

  15. I used to sprinkle food on the lawn as a kid. We’d put oatmeal and glitter in a baggie and sprinkle it, so it would make the snow glisten even more. so much fun! we’ve been looking for years for a poem!

  19. The only problem with this is that you have to go get the candies after they have been sprinkles. The kids will check in the morning!
