Life Like Pet Squirrel

This knitting pattern shows you how to knit a squirrel or possum using feather style wool or chunky curly wool.

What you need

Double Worsted Weight Feather or Curly textured Wool (8ply)
Size 6 (5 mm) needles
Size 8 (4 mm) needles
felt for ears and claws

Instructions

Cast on 2sts.

K1 row

inc into first and last st (4sts)

inc into frist and last st (6sts)

continue in this manner until (16sts)

continue in garter st, until work measure 7″ (17cm)

inc into first and last st (18sts)

K1 row

inc into first and last st (20sts)

K1 row

inc into first and last st (22sts)

K1 row

inc into first and last st (24sts)

continue in garter st until work measures 12″ (30 cm) from begining.

Curve body:

Knit to the last 3 sts then turn.

Knit to the last 3 sts then turn.

Knit to the last 2 sts then turn.

Knit to the last 2 sts then turn.

Knit to the last 3 sts then turn.

Knit to the last 3 sts then turn.

2 rows garter st.

repeat last 8 rows 2 more times.

Shape head:

K 6, K2 tog, K6, K2 tog, K6, K2 tog (21sts)

K 5, K2 tog, K5, K2 tog, K5, K2 tog (18sts)

K 4, K2 tog, K4, K2 tog, K4, K2 tog (15sts)

K 3, K2 tog, K3, K2 tog, K3, K2 tog (12sts)

K 2, K2 tog, K2, K2 tog, K2, K2 tog (9sts)

K 1, K2 tog, K1, K2 tog, K1, K2 tog (6sts)

K2 tog 3 times (3)

K2 tog K1 (2)

K2 tog, thread yarn through st and fasten off.

Underbelly: using size 8 (4mm) needles and white yarn

Cast on 3 sts

Inc into first and last stitch (5sts)

K1 row

Repeat these 2 rows, 3 times. (11sts)

continue in garter st, 4 more rows.

Now decrease the first and last st on every alternate row until 3 sts remain.

Cast off.

Make up:

Stitch the peak of the triangle belly to the nose section, creating a tick in the middle of the belly.

Use black wool and felt to create nose , eyes,ears and claws. Stitch into place.

All done!
