Invitation Wax Seal

Invitation Wax Seal

Wax seals give your invitations a lovely finish, however we can't all afford to have one custom made.

What you need

Piece of dowel
Decorative metal Button
Colored sealing wax or hot glue sticks
Super Glue

Instructions

Find a Decorative Metal Button: Begin your wax seal project by selecting a decorative metal button with a raised design. Look for one that has a ring at the back rather than button holes, as this will make it easier to attach to the dowel.  A big thank you to Andrea C for sharing her photo.

Prepare the Dowel: Purchase a piece of dowel from your local hardware store that matches the size of the button. Using pliers or strong scissors, carefully remove the metal ring from the back of the button so that it can lay flat.

Attach the Button to the Dowel: Apply a small amount of super glue to the back of the button, then carefully adhere it to the end of the dowel. Ensure that the button is securely attached and allow the glue to dry completely before proceeding.

Melt the Sealing Wax or hot glue: Follow the instructions provided with your chosen brand of sealing wax to melt it properly. This typically involves heating the wax using a flame until it reaches a liquid state. Exercise caution when working with hot wax to avoid burns.

Apply the Wax Seal: Once the wax or hot melt is melted, add a few drops to your project surface. Take your wax seal, gently place it into the melted wax, and then remove it. The seal should leave a clear impression in the wax.

Press and Release: When making the seal, ensure that you press the button firmly into the wax to create a clear impression of the design. Then, carefully lift the button away from the wax to reveal the finished seal.

Allow to Cool and Harden: Let the wax seal cool and harden completely before handling or displaying your project. This will ensure that the seal sets properly and remains intact.

Optional Finishing Touches: If desired, you can further customize your wax seal by adding embellishments such as ribbons, stamps, or additional decorative elements to enhance its appearance.

By following these steps, you can create beautiful and personalized wax seals using decorative metal buttons and sealing wax, adding a touch of elegance to your projects and correspondence.

  1. I always seal my letters with wax, but i use rubber stamps they work just as well! Also you can just light a candle and pour the wax down on the letter and press the rubber stamp in before it is completely dry!
Kinda tricky if you haven’t done before.
