Initialed Face Flannel

Make this knitting pattern for initialed face wash clothes. One for each member of the family.

What you need

1 2 oz (50 g) ball in main shade (shade A)
1 2 oz (50 g) ball in contrast shade(Shade B)
1 pair of No. 10 (6 mm) needles

Instructions

Size
12 inch square (30 cm)

Tension
7 sts to l inch (2.5cm)

Face flannel
Using No. 10 needles and B cast on 83 sts.
1st row Kl, *P1, Kl, rep from * to end.
2nd row PI, * Kl, PI, rep from * to end.
Continue in rib for 2 rows more, dec 1 st at
each end of both rows.
79 sts.
K 1 row.

Break off B leaving an end to darn in.

Join in A and P 1 row.

1st patt row PI, *K1, PI, rep from * to end.

2nd patt row Kl, *P1, Kl, rep from * to end.

3rd patt row As 2nd.

4th patt row As first.

These 4 rows form the pattern.

Continue in patt until work measures 11 ^in from cast on edge, ending with a 2nd patt row.

K 1 row.

Break off A as before.
Join in B. * P 1 row.
Next row Kl, * PI, Kl, rep from * to end.
Work 3 tows mote in vib vac st. at eacVv etvd next 2 rows only. Cast off in rib. *

Side borders

Using B and with right side facing K up 77 sts along side of centre section. Work from * to * as for last border. Rep along rem side.

To make up

Finish off ends and sew corner border mitres together. Using one strand of B embroider the outline of initials in one corner. Using 2 strands of B fill in the space between outlines.

Press lightly under a damp cloth on the wrong side using a warm iron.
