Ice Candle

Ice Candle

Follow basic candle making instructions so that you have melted wax, cooled and ready to pour.

What you need

Square candle mold or
Bottom of a milk carton
Candle wick
Candle wax
Optional Candle dyes
Ice cubes

Instructions

This project uses the Basic Candle Instructions.

We used a milk carton for the mold.

Place your ice cubes into your milk carton mold. Do not place them neatly as the candle will need to form in the cracks of the ice cubes. The less organized the better. Try to keep the center of the candle (around the wick) free from ice, so that the wax can form around the wick insuring a consistent burning candle.

Slowly pour your melted wax over the ice cubes and around the wick area. Continue to do this till the milk carton is full.

Allow all the ice to melt and the wax to set before slipping it out of your milk carton.

  3. where can you buy the wax (in the dollar store?)

  4. cool

  5. I did this about 20 years ago in girl scouts. I am going to be doing it with a group home for young girls. We are using 1/2 gallon milk cartons and taper candles. What I don’t remember is how much wax to buy. We are doing 8 with half gallon cartons…can someone give me an idea as to how much wax is needed so the home can get some donations?

  6. My mother used to make these when I was young…

  7. cool

  8. When I mold my candles I use milk cantons and straight edge tin cans. I have a suggestion to insure that there will be enough wax around the wick. Why not use an old taper candle held in place down the center of the mold? It’s always worked for me and you can find countless “giveaways” on candles at garage sales…stock up!!
    I can’t wait to try your “Ice Candle”. : }

  17. I did this in the 4th grade and after we got the candle out we whipped some more wax with a hand mixer and applied it to the outside and sprinkled glitter on if we wanted to. They are beautiful when they burn. We used a 1/2 gal milk carton and filled it.

  37. llamalady47 says

You can also make these in snow. Just melt some wax, make a hole in the snow and pour the wax in the hole.

  38. works better if use candle rather than just candle wickin milk carton

  39. it is so nice for the dark

  40. its beautiful

  41. very beautiful outlook.easy+ unusual.

  42. i am interested

  43. Done this before. Makes a great candle

  44. i didnt try this yet, but today i am, but my idea is do what it tells you, but put ice on bottom, then pour wax, and let the wax dry, then on top of the wax put ice and so on

  45. My sister gave me a good idea. She uses a candle in the middle of the ice instead of just the wick. It holds up effortlessly. It can’t go wrong!

  46. Works well, looks great in round can molds too.

  47. the picher needs to be biger so i can see how the candle looks and how it is splost to look

  48. I remember making these with kids at camp! Very popular. Also try broken ice cubes for lots of small holes. Watch out when you burn it, because the wax flows straight out through those holes.

  49. I did this years ago when I was in the 4th grade (1954). They make beautiful candles. The only thing we did different was take some heated wax & let it cool slightly and whip it with a hand mixer and then ‘iced’ the outside of the candle with it. Lovely!
