Home Made Air Freshener Gel

Home Made Air Freshener Gel

Are your guests secretly gossiping about the odour of your house or room? Then don't despair! Here is a very straight forward nifty fix for any home. This fragrant gel can be made any color to match your decor and also looks great in glass vases or glass bowls. Add a decorative touch to a practical object.

What you need

Approx. 30 grams of unflavored gelatin
500 mls of water
Desired food coloring
Selected fragrant or essential oil
Mixing bowl

Instructions

Start by pouring the gelatin powder into a mixing bowl. The weight is not crucial so just get it as close as possible depending on the available packaging in your area.

For those of you who don’t know, gelatin will be in the baking section of your supermarket.

Boil around 200mls of water.

Next stir the boiling water carefully into the gelatin powder until all the gelatin has dissolved. Pour the remainder of the water (300mls) into the bowl and stir through.

Now add your food coloring (a little goes a long way).

Allow it to get to room temperature. Add 10 drops of fragrant or essential oil into the gel. Place it in the refrigerator for several hours till it looks like firm jelly. Once it has set use a fork to mash it up so you are left with chunks of fragrant gel.

To Finish off: Pour a small amount of the gel into the bowl or vase. Keep any unused gel in an airtight container.

Creative Tips: If you want to get really creative, make layers of different colored gel in a tall glass vase. Add 1-2 tbs of salt to act as a preservative if you are making large batches.
